Default Buying 5th gen Prelude

I'll be buying a 5th gen Prelude next year. Just want to know what things I should be looking for when I start test driving one.

Are there certain model years to avoid?

I heard the biggest problems are with the trannies, what are the exact problems and how common is this?

Which one should I go for SH or Base model? I'm not planning on modding the car too much.

Thanks in advance.

ss (sport shift) or 5spd. the main tranny problems you're hearing are probably about the ss. but the 5spd does have a 2nd gear grinding problem. ( i think its 2nd right? someone back me up?)

if you are getting a ss. then get 98 or higher, since honda put extended warranty 100k if i recall correct.

if you're not looking into modding the car that much. in my opiniion i would go for a SH. for one, it has atts. and it also comes with better stock rims (IMO), SH sticker in back that adds the honda claimed 5hp. i think sh's come with painted side skirts. also, i think sh's have lil more accesories insidecabin.

i believe it's the same flywheel hp. avoid the sportshift at all costs. it'll just be problems in the future. and i do believe all the other stuff i.e. sideskirts and etc. are painted the body color

What exactly do you plan on doing to it? I/H/E? If so I'd get an 98+ SH. If you plan on doing more ie. cams, vtec controller...I'd go for a base model because from my experience dyno-ing 97+ ludes the ATTS robs power as opposed to the non SH. I guess what I'm trying to spit out is: you can get more HP out of a base model rather than an SH with the same mods.

Get the base model prelude....stay away from type SH, stay away from the Sportshift....

Type SH that ATTS light always come on...it even comes on when you get horny...and maintainant cost more for Type SH (shop wise)... Auto Sportshift...man it's still a Bitchmatic.

For sure I'll be doing I/H/E and some minor mods, aswell as suspension work.

Is leather heated seats available with the base model?

What are the differences in suspension between the SH and the base?

How well does the H22 respond to Turbo?

I believe the SH is the only model that comes with LSD, correct?

Thanks everyone

The SH doesn't come with LSD. It comes with ATTS.

LSD>ATTS

Prelude's are amazing cars. Just make sure the maintenance has been done regularly and on time and you should be fine.

You're about 20 years late to the party.
