Default alternator??

ok, I am having a wierd problem with my 90 civic, the battery light is coming on, and I checked the battery and its good but it needed to be charged a lot. So I am obviously thinking its the alternator but than I noticed there is eyelet on the negative terminal that is cracked off and there seems to be a wire that looks like it might come from the positive harness thats missing an eyelet, I dont want to connect this to the negative terminal with a new eyelid without knowing if maybe its positive wiring and blow it up, so I want to know if there should be a wire going from the positive wiring to the negative, and if this could be why the alternator isnt charging the battery right or if the alternator is just dead. Is there even supposed another wire attached to the negative, or could it be something aftermarket like from an alarm or something?

your alternator is simply in need of replacement. the lead from the alternator to the fuse box is the ground.

"battery" light is the "charge warning" light, indicates the condition of your alternator, not your battery.
