Should I replace water pump with rod/piston install?
I have a d16y7 and am going to throw in my rods/pistons shortly and was wondering if I should replace my waterpump while I'm in there. The engine has 32k on it of which 2k of that has been turboed. What do you guys think?

no need to replace the water pump if it doesnt leak ... mine have more than 180 000 km ...
you dont change a water pump for better cooling ... but if it leak ... if you never see a water pump you could be surprised to see how simple it is

i would definitely do it. might as well since ur going to have the motor apart to replace both oil and water pump.
if it ain't broke don't fix it.
better to leave it alone for now, when it gives problems then take care of it.
when you do too much things at once and then you have problems, most of the times it harder to isolate the problems because you worked on so many areas

yah but a new one won't hurt... it's preventative maintenance. i wouldn't like to know that my OLD oil pump goes out on me and causes my freshly built motor to die when i coulda prolonged the life ahead of time. just one of those things u replace because u have it all open

pfieffdog was salesman of the month for 2 months in a row, they should give him a free waterpump for that accomplishment, he even was nice enough to snowblow my driveway the other day

I personally would do it along with Timing Belt and all new gaskets. Don't be a cheapass, it will bite you later.

bullshit. That saying doesnt apply when turbocharging motors. " hey the deltagate doesnt creep on 10psi yet, lemme not replace it until my motor detonates" "my oil pump has 120k on it and I am about to go boost for the first time. lemme not even touch the pump until it cant provide enough pressure" bullshit!! replace the water pump if its an option for u.

it is preventive maintanance to do the timing belt and water pump, doing jobs one at a time will help to isolate if your run into problems.
