Default a sad day in the audio world

last week my buddies system was all stolen out of his s-10 while he was at school. he goes to AIU (american intercontinental university) in atlanta which isn't in the best part of town and his system was stolen.
they took everything he had 2 MA audio (i believe they were synergy series) 12's with an MA audio amp pushing 800 watts to each sub i think is what he was pushing, maybe more.
he also had a sony xplod headunit, one of the motorized face ones with the active backpanel. he paid like $375 for it with a discount back when he bought it.

i wanna know how they got that box out of there. it was an extended cab s-10 (98 model) and a friend of mine built him a custom box that went across the whole back cab and the subs fired up on either side with the amp mounted flush in the middle. it was pain to get that thing in there.
they also cut his dash open with a saw to get his headunit out, i will get some pics of the carnage done in the next few days.
i told him he needed to get an alarm. this isn't the first time this has happened either. it was broken into about a year ago in a different part of town at the movies and they stole his amp but couldn't get the subs out and broke his window. insurance actually sent a new amp to him which was two models up in 2 days. he said that insurance is gonna cover everything this time too and since they broke his window again and cut up his dash he doesn't have to pay a deductable since it was vandalism.

Why invest all that money in an audio system and not have an alarm installed? The siren alone would have scared them off.

Granted is someone wants to steal your stuff, they will get it. You can only hope to slow them down or scare them off before they can get everything.

i just got broken into again, for the 3rd time this year, friday night.
twice on labor day weekend, again friday night.
the first, they took my JL Audio 10w7 and 500/1 monoblock amp, alpine 7894, 2 different bottles of cologne, and cd's.
the next night, my driver's side rear quarter panel window was broken and my friend's purse was stolen. friday night they broke the passenger side window (amatuers) and took my eclipse 8443, a pack of cigs, and my friends makeup bag.

on the alpine head unit, they didn't take that power source thingy so they couldn't use the head unit. the eclipse has ESN, so they won't be using that.

thats what i told him! and he was like well im short on money. i was also like don't beat your system in a part of town you don't know and also cover up your box and everything when you leave the car cause you can look inside and see the big chrome MA audio amp and two 12's with big *** surrounds on them.

eclipse doesn't have a detachable face. it has esn. they might have seen the remote. also, when they yanked the head unit..you could see the power wires. when they popped the hood, you could see the power wire from the battery. that means amp, and amp usually means sub.

edit: generally, hondas/acuras are pretty easy to get into. if there is even a detachable face, the theif might be able to get into your car quickly enough to have time to search for the face. also they can take cd's and whatever else is showing..it didn't cost them anything to break in

and took my eclipse 8443 ouch!!!

ANd btw yes they can use that even if it has a locked up ESN. I have a friend who got a stolen eclipse deck and his buddy at a certified eclipse dealer just unlocked it for him with a code and boom. Hes good to go.

That is a little shady. For some reason high end headunits don't come with detachable faces anymore. Hiding the face, ala alpine, does not do anything either. You guys are lucky though. My last two break-ins cost me two cars.

Thats a tough system to part with. I always hide my face unit behind the glove compartment off to the side near the passenger door. There is a little space where the connectors are for the diagnosis of the engine lights. Then you flip the glove box hinge things back up and shut the box, if they go to look in the box in only oppens "half"way, I don't think that anyone would think to look there.

Plus I looked my back seat up, and looked the trunk lever, It might only save me a minute but that could be enough to catch someone, and then shoot them. Later I would claim the "Make my day" Law, (I love that law)

that's great except that the eclipse does not have a detachable face

edit: after i get my police report stuff, eclipse should replace my head unit since it was within the 1st year of me purchasing it.

There are other ways to delete that code it doesn't take a genious. Think about how to erase a locked bios in a computer. Eclipse is counting on the stupidity of the average theif. Well a little harder but not much.

Unfortunately, this is not a sad day... just another day. Face it, we drive Hondas and there are bastards out there who want them. So long as that exists, we will be victims.

ok so i talked to him today and the insurance company sent him an even better amp and both subs, a box, and a new head unit. hes gonna sell one of the subs, the box, and the amp and get a smaller amp. I'm gonna build him a stealth looking box for the back and he said he's taking the money from the amp and sub to buy an alarm and get his windows tinted darker in the back.
