B18C5 into 96 civic dx hatchback
i was lookin into doing a jdm type r swap into a 96 civic dx hatch. ive found the motors for around 6k, with 10-20 thousand miles, hydralic trans, ecu, obd-2 harness, sensors, and axles. what else do i need to complete the swap? do i need to shorten the axles, i heard the integra axles were longer than civics cuz tegs were wider, but that was on an 89 hatch. ive also read that the motor was a direct fit into a 6g civic, except for the rear mounts. i dont kno what mounts i should use, or any clue on how to hook up the ecu. anyone whos done this swap, lemme kno how you did ur swap. and do you need to take off the transmission to pull the motor out? also is there a page or book on ECU's for dummies that i could read up on? please help, any input is appreciated
and what about the tachometer? how do i get one that is in the dash instead of the bigass tachs that look like ****(just my opinion). do i just buy a type r gauge cluster? please help me

You could get a gauge cluster from a 96-98 EX, 99-00 Si or 97-00 CRV. You could also get a JDM CTR cluster or variations of the Euro EK if you don't mind reading your speed in KMH.

The Integra axles are a direct fit to the 6th gen. The only time you would run into trouble would be with the JDM ITR axles (98+ I think) that have a larger diameter outer joint shaft and splines.

You will need a 99-00 Civic Si rear mount bracket and also a driver's side mount bracket. The rest will be a mix of stock and Integra brackets and mounts.

Depending on which ECU you get, it should plug directly into your harness. Usually the most you would have to do is buy a specific OBD adapter harness. Of course there will be some wiring involved since there are going to be some extra sensors to wire up.

At the very least, go to a parts store (Autozone, Pepboys, etc.) and buy a Helms manual that cover's 96-00 Civic's and 94-01 Integra's. These may not contain all the nice things that a Helms manual does, but at a small fraction of the cost they cover enough to get you by. Don't forget to search here, as many of the questions you've asked or will ask have already been covered.

the engine i was wanting to get came with the OBD-2 harness. i also read on the hybrid honda forum that you have to add some sensors that arent already there. my other question is the resline of the CTR and ITR are the same? didnt kno that. learn something new everyday. and also the motor i was gonna buy was jdm, and it says it comes with axles, and im assumming that they are also jdm, wil ihave to shorten those? how much would that cost? or would i be better off just gettin different shafts, like maybe stock CTR axles or high perfmance axles?

2 things won't allow you to reuse the harness that comes with the motor: 1.) It's a RHD harness and is basically backasswards to a US harness. 2.) The Integra harness will not work in a 96+ Civic because it's works as a 2 piece harness, but the Civic uses a 1 piece harness. It can be salvaged for needed plugs and wiring but that's about it.

Yes, you will need to add wiring for the VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, knock sensor then rewire the IAT and IACV with the ITR plugs.

There's no need to shorten axles or anything like that. Read above, I already answered this

It's amazing to me how patient the Resident Hybrid folks are when it comes to inquiring minds asking legetimate questions. Go to another forum and ask a question and you'll get 6 replies bashing you for not searching before someone answers your question followed by an insult...

thanx for the info. altho i do have one final question, if the integra connectors are backward (jdm that is), then can i go to the dealer and maybe get stock integra hook-ups, then would that work rite?
I have both the engine, and either ITR or CTR clusters if you're interested.
