What's the new ITR like?
Hi All,
I've got a 98 ITR which is an employer supplied car. It gets replaced every three years and is up for renewal in ten weeks so I have to look for something to replace it.
Has anyone driven the new ITR? Is it any good?
My choices are
a) New shape ITR
b) Civic Type R
c) another original ITR
d) something completely different......Lotus Elise........?
Any thoughts on the new ITR?????
Regards

DC5 mate, you know you want to
go to http://forum.hondarevolutions.com and ask about them there, at least 3 people have them and they love them.
I've been in one and, WOW what a car, that's definatley next on my shopping list, plus the DC5 might be released here in the UK

It's not as good as it sounds.
Here in the UK your employer can provide you with a car as a company perk. Thats the good bit. The bad bit is the tax man counts it as a perk and heavily taxes you. The tax is high because the government is trying to cut down cars clogging up our roads. So although I get a free ITR
it's the same as buying it your self at the end of the day
The only good bit is that you can screw it for three years and not worry when you give it back.........and I jolly well screw it every day 140+ weekly

If you like your DC2 ITR and you like the idea of the Lotus Elise, then IMHO you aren't going to like the DC5 ITR or the EP3 CTR.
Neither of them has that "raw and connected" feeling that the Elise and DC2 ITR give you.
Unless you fully understand that the EP3 and DC5 are completely different automobiles with completely different feels to them, and unless you're willing to make and looking for that change, you will be dissatisfied.
I use an EP3 heavily as a daily driver, putting at least 120 miles/day on it. It's a fine little car, very practical and quite solid, but it's not anything comparable to the DC2 ITR feel.
Mr Ichisima of Spoon Sports recently referred to both the EP3 and DC5 as basically glorified minivans. This was in an interview about the choice of the CL7 (USDM TSX - UKDM Accord) as the chassis for their latest project.

Yeah the Elise sounds pretty crazy from what I've read. I've always wanted an Esprit though (S4 perhaps?)
Do you have to get rid of the R?

George--where did you see this quote??? Very interesting, indeed. It would certainly make a TSX an amazing used car prospect a few years down the road.

Damn, seems more and more everyday now, i want to move. This post just made me want to move more.
DC5R is a great looking car. Thats all i can say, since i have never seen one in person.

The DC2R is a nicer looking car, IMO.
From what I gather, the DC5R is a more refined car; nicer interior, sturdier build. This is probably a Con to the many R owners that prefer the DC2R's raw track oriented feel.

Just a few interesting annecdotes from my interview on this car. I specifically asked Ichishima why he chose to field the CL7 Accord Euro-R instead of more 'logical choices' (to us enthusiasts, that is) like the DC5 Integra Type-R or the EP3 Civic Type-R. After all, those who have been following the BEST MOTORing/HOT VERSION videos knows that stock-to-stock, the DC5 and the EP3 are very much faster than the CL7 (Accord Euro-R) on the race-track.
However, Ichishima's answer took me by surprise. He doesn't think the DC5 is as good a base as the CL7. In fact, he admits to be unimpressed with the DC5 as a base for modifications. 'It's based on a van', he says, 'it's a Stream Coupe !'. Similarly the EP3 to him is a 'Stream hot-hatch'. The CL7 Accord Euro-R to him is the best all-round current generation Type-R model made by Honda.</FONT></TD></TR></TABLE>

I think the DC5R is a gorgeous car... certainly not your everyday RSX.... the wheels, the recaros, the brembo calipers.... it's dead sexy IMO. There's one that parks outside of my factory... Champ white and every time I roll by... I have to peep the ride. I mean, how often do you see a guy in an AMG Merc checking out a Honda ? lol... I got pics too..one of them is my current background... gawd I'm pathetic.
Not to put myself in the flame's path... but what about a Focus RS ? It's roomy as all hell, handles like it's on rails and it's turbo... it'll prolly outrun an ITR easily and has handling to compete as well....just another option for ya.

Thanks, George.
Interesting article. Either the DC5/EP3 have a more pedestrian origin, or the Stream is one helluva minivan!!!
I'm still impressed by the specs of the DC5R, though.
