Well after searching around I finally got a car. I was going to get a loan for a good condition EF hatch I had found for $1,500, 70hp four speed, when I stopped by my dads shop. Apparently a guy had been in there with a hatch that said something about selling it. After work I went to check it out. It was a black 91 hatchback. Didn't have any badges and I couldn't read the engine code, but the interior was in good shape besides a tear on the driver seat. I told him I'd check it out again today which I did.
Met up with him today and took it for a spin. The engine fired right up and it ran ultra smooth. 2nd gear will grind a touch if you aren't careful, but I mastered it so that it doesn't make a sound. Driver side window doesn't roll up good without a fight if you let it down, no muffler, and CV joint was bad, but the engine ran so good I figured what the heck. I handed the guy $700 (he's on welfare and its Christmas time), got the title changed over, and that was that.
I got back to the shop and snagged a new CV joint, went to install it and stripped the ball joint bolt , so I have to get another one monday. I couldn't drive it home due to this of course, but I test drove it for over 40mi (getting the title and such) so I got a good feel for it.
Since I couldn't get the suspension back togther I cleaned up the engine bay a touch. It turned out its a D16A6 so it means it's an Si!!! (ok not really that excited) I wasn't too concerned what model it was, but its nice to know and I thought it felt surprisingly peppy.
Fixing to order some Azenis for it here in a bit, good set of brake pads up front with a fluid flush, replace the ball joint and it should be ready to go.

You may want to replace the transmission fluid also. Throw some Honda MTF in there, it might make the 2nd gear grind go away so you don't have to use any "special methods" when shifting into 2nd.
I have a 92 CX hatchback that I don't have time or money for. I need to get to work on that thing...

Yeah I'll be doing some basic tune up stuff. Definitely need to try the tranny fluid, it would be nice if that fixed it. There is no special method really you just have to match the revs, which of course will always allow a tranny to go in gear fine. It just requires waiting a touch longer than normal to shift so the revs can drop to the right point.
I just ordered a set of Azenis for it tonight. It currently has a bunch of mismatched used tires which bugs me. A nice set of street pads and a brake flush is next on the list after I get the ball joint on tommorrow.
It seems to leak a touch of oil as well, possibly front main seal or oil pan, although the valve cover did look leaky as well so it could be running down. I was able to replace it today though so we'll see.
By the way I plan on owning the old crap tires tommorrow on some of the cotton field dirt roads with stunna drift skills, might have some pics up if I can get a decent camera
Man I guess I need to start posting in the EF forum. That's just plain weird.

Well I got the new CV joints in. I'm really surprised, this thing is pretty darn peppy and will be even more so once its gutted out and the sunroof is removed. Second gear doesn't seem to feel rough at normal driving speeds now and only grinded when I snatched it at high rpm. I thought that was kinda weird since yesterday it required a little finess during normal driving.
The brakes however DEFINITELY need a good bleed job if not a MC. They will grab somewhat decent but its at the very bottom of the floor before the car really starts stopping.
The suspension however feels surprisingly stiff. I thought there would be more body roll, but its not bad.
Once I get the sunroof out and pot rivet some sheet metal on top I'll be giving it a bling bling spray paint job.

Well I gave the car a good beating last night on some of Alabama's finest dirt roads. It requires a little trail braking to get the back end out hard, but after that it's really easy to control. The roads around here are in the middle of cotton fields so you can just keep trying harder and harder until you spin it off into the field. It's awesome yo!

All 88-91 Si's had 5 speed (not sure if automatic was an option) and Fuel Injection.

Why would you want to do that? That was one of my favorite options on my Si.

1. Because its heavy.
2. It doesn't work.
3. did I mention it's heavy?
I completely gutted the car today, roof panels and everything, well except for the doors that is. The car was covered in dirt under the carpet so I gave it a simple green bath and a good vacuum. I'm going to wet sand it tommorrow and hit it up with a gloss black paint job inside and out. Spray paint ownz all.

So is this going to be a drag car or a daily driver?

Cool, sounds like a nice DD.
But as for the sunroof, a pop-riveted sheetmetal replacement may be more prone to leak than the stock, non-functioning unit. I wouldn't mess with it.

Some black silicone would seal up the gaps.

Not if I put silicon around the inner side when I rivet it down, then a coat of 3M sealant on top, primer, all sanded down and then a layer of paint
.
Yes it is going to be splitting the daily driving duties with the ITR for a while, but it doesn't mean I can't have some fun with it. Besides once I get the R how I want it (engine build, tranny input shaft bearing probably needs to be replaced) the hatch will most likely become a IT/ECHC/Rally (haven't decided yet) *****.
By the way I'm typing this as I let my mad bling spray paint primer dry

Exactly, how can your car be a 4-speed Active?

You should come down here once it gets running...maybe chrimmas?
