Default Open Headers?

Name some advantages and disadvantages of open headers. I heard it gives great high end power and poorer low end power?

im just wondering...cus i have seen a bunch of hatches over here...running around with open headers...and that **** sounds mean! They run stock exhaust with open headers...pretty good idea...but i dont know. It doesnt sound too loud to me...sounds like ls/v or b20/v. What do you guys think? Any advantages at all? Great high end? Yes no?

When I put my Chikara header on I went around the block with it before I conected it to the cat and the sound is intense. Gave out some good power too.

Your cant run an open header with exhaust. point of an open header is nothing after it. They probably drilled a hole in the muffler . IMO, do not run open headers. Sounds like ****. Bleeding from the ears, breathing in CO2 and a trip to the ER (it's a stretch, c'mon now) is not worth the extra horsepower. I know in Pa you wont pass the emissions test.

Now is all the hassle worth it??? If you think it is, go for it. It's your car.

I have heard it from an accord, on of my stunna friends, but he had no cat and a straight pipe. It wasnt that loud, but from inside the car it was very annoying. Plus it sounded like crap. SO once again, i dont see the point.

just take how loud you think it'll be and multiply by 10...ran open header on the h22 for a day after the swap...my ears couldn't handle it past 4k...hit vtec once and thought i was gonna be deaf...otherwise, pulled really nice

Actually you can. The majority of people around here that used to run open header would leave their stock muffler and piping to look stock. They would either push the piping to the side, or use spacers to seperate the header from the piping, or eliminate the cat completely.

Like others have said it's loud and smells terrible. They do, however, make silencers for headers.
