what is overall the best b series motor for a swap?...i want a b16a3 or a b18 motor from a gsrt...or if anyone knows of some threads to look at, please send me them....asap

i think his finger slipped on the keyboard with the "t". b16 has always been a favorite. cheapest b series vtec motor with lots of potential.

 

B18c5r is the best stock B series motor you can buy. But, if you can do your own work you can make a C1 as fast or faster for the same cost. The B16 is the torqueless wonder. If you don't believe me drive a B16 hatch and drive a B18 hatch. Night and day.

All Motor = ITR B18C5

I agree, it all depends on what your future intentions are. If you never plan to boost soon and stay all motor, the US B18C5 or JDM B18C-R would be the best B series motor to buy. Not to say that they aren't good boosted, but with their higher compression, you are paying for something that you're going to have to tear into and lower the compression for even low boost.
The B18C1 is the best all around motor since it can be low/mildy boosted stock or could also be built for slightly higher compression to rival the ITR motor. The B16's respond well to boost too but their lack of torque in NA form leaves something to be desired.
You also could choose the DOHC nonVTEC route: B18A/B or B20B/Z which can be boosted well or built into an LSVTEC/CRVTEC. This is an affordable setup in stock form that can lead to bigger and better things...

agreed, i thnik he accidentally put the T ater GS-Rt cuz ther right next to each other.

 

Shorter stroke and perfect R/S ratio is your friend. B16a will always be the engine of choice for me. I completely **** my b16a off, bash it to all hell, and kick it while it's down... never had a single problem. Stock Valvetrain, stock bottom end, Type-R cams, 9200rpm every week... Things indestructable. Just don't expect to have a fast car with a b16a swap.

so true, but i honestly think otherwise about expecting a slow car with a b16. i ran a 9.8 at qualcomm with intake header exhaust in My Si. i love my b16....and you were so right...INDESTUCTABLE!!

 

B18C5 if you have lots of money.

It can be fast, but fast is all relative. To me, something fast is sup-13 seconds. Right now I'm running mid-low 14's just with a bolt-on and CTR cammed B16a in my Si, which is very respectable considering the mods and the car.

Your question is too vague. You need to say what type of driving you plan on doing, what your budget is, and what your over all goals with the car is. IMO, a custom built motor is the way to go with what specs you want to get out of it.

 

not bad....what do you thnik i should be expecting...with just bolt ons in my Si (inlcuding throttle body 62mm) i run a 14.7 1/4

putting in this week: CTR cams, SKunk2 valve springs/retainers, Type r Valves, aem cam gears, apex vafc, B&M Fuel pressure regulator, and skunk2 intake mani.

and after about a month of break in time, it goes right on the dyno for tuning.

what kind of times you thnik ill run?...mid 13's..to high 13's?

after this its all bottom end, i was actuallythinking of just going wth a gs-r bottom end with a type r crank, and ctr pistons/rods.

my plan is to get a N/A daily driven high 12 second BEAST....new tires will be needed also lol.

what are your plans?

Hmm, I doubt you can hit 13's on that setup, but maybe, I don't know. Depends on the state of tune, the weight of the car, and your driving skill. That's pretty much the same setup I have and I'm doing 14.4. 14.7 is impressive for your mods, care to share specifics? What brand I/H/E are you using?

My plans are... well... turbo.

 

b20-vtec all the way! a little pricey but totaly worth it. you get torque and vtec in one. and if it's in a light car, you cant beat that with a stick.

AEM short ram intake, DC 4-1 header, and Greddy Evo exhaust..ohh and i forgot to mention the 62 mm throttle body ....if i were you ide look into getting the whole R intake arm...wow!...i bolted it up and felt like i added another intake on the other side...no joke.

when i did that time (5 times in a row...) i had my spare tire out, and passenger seat out, and i have a c/f hood. not much but hey it does help.

so you dont thnik ill get a 13 second?
