Default Any recomendations for an exhaust on 01 GS-R?

I have a stock 2001 GS-R and am looking for a new exhaust. I need some help on deciding which exhaust to buy. I don't want it to be too whiney, but at the same time I do want it to be louder than the one I have now. There is a shop near my house called Area 51 and they recomend that I get a 5 Zigen. What do you guys think?

5 zigen Fireballs are kinda loud. I have a Greddy EVO which isn't loud compared to many other exhausts but it sounds nice. Check out http://www.carreview.com and go to the exhaust review section. There are plenty of reviews on pretty much all of the exhausts on the market including apex, greddy, tanabe, and 5zigen.

I also have the Greddy Evo. IMO the exhaust tip is much too big and catches unwanted attention from cops. The sound is deep and not too loud. It's also constructed in a way that gives you more clearance if you lowered your car excessively. Many members here like the Apex WS. Its very quiet and stock like.
My friend has the 5 zigen Fireball and it sounds pretty nice. If you can get a good price for it, go for it. Remember cops are cracking down on modify exhaust system like crazy these days, so subtle is better.

I got the Apexi N1 on my 01 GSR and I loved it. It is kinda loud but its has a nice tilt angle with good gains and good flow. Good luck with your choices i'm sure whichever you choose will be good.

I agree, the EVO is kinda big, but mainly from the side view. From the rear, I think it looks pretty sick. It has that slight tilt to the right.

i like my evo...though its kinda whiney too imo...im thinking of switchin to an apexN1 or a thermal research and development....i dont kno if its the same way now, but when i got my evo, they ordered me a 94-99 gsr exhaust...i spent like an hour trying to get that **** on and realized it didnt fit...because in 01 i guess acura moved the fuel pump to a different location for no apparent reason...so i had to use a 94-99 LS exhaust which fit fine. maybe they came out w/ da 01 gsr greddy evo? i dont kno...but i heard the apex N1 is da bomb and noone told me bout dat damn warehouse sale where they were selling it for 200!

I'm really happy with my 5Zigen. It's not really that loud--until you step on it! It doesn't sound like a tin can at all. I bought mine @ importparts.com. It was the cheapest place I found and they shipped it quick too.

I also have the Greddy Evo, I love it. IMO it sounds better than most other exhausts I've heard but isn't too loud. It is kinda big, but it is a separate muffler and tip so it at least doesn't look like a trashcan. The only problem I've had is that I need to retighten the bolts soon because it has started to make weird vibrating noises when the car is idle. As for whether it exists for '01, I have no idea.

Do you guys with greddy evos notice a gurgling noise when you let off the gas to shift? mine always gurgles or sorta pops.

Ok I am all for asking questions but this is enough. Everywere you turn, everywere you go there are reviews on exhaust systems, do you really need us to suggest to you what exhaust to buy.

Read some articles, go to some websites and make up your own mind on what you want to get.

I can somewhat agree with that.

The 5 zigen is nice, if you like the whole hang to the side thing. My friend has it and it sounds pretty nice. But a little loud. I ended up with the Tanabe Hyper Medallion for a slightly better than stock look, good sound, not whiney in my opinion. I can't tell any improvement in performance, but in an exhuast, you usually don't. Does draw unwanted attention. Check it out
