Replacing front suspension bushings?
Is this fairly straightforward, as in can I pull apart the arms and rods and not have to worry about components springing apart that i won't be able to put back together with my own normal man-stength? Jacked with weight off wheels too? Any info would be great. I'm just trying to replace some worn/squeaking bushings. Also, is there more than one type of material that these bushings are made out of or no?
The lower control arm is probably the hardest part of replacing the bushings, at least on the 4th gen. The bushings have to be pressed out pretty much. Some people have had luck torching the rubber and then hammering the bushing shell out, but it's iffy. I'd rather take the LCA to a shop to have the old ones pressed out and the new ones pressed in.
Before you can do that though, you have to get the LCA out of there. Which means you have to separate the lower ball joint from the LCA. I have never had luck doing this. I bought a special tool to do it off JC Whitney, but the next time I worked in that area I just dismantled other parts of the suspension to remove the axles.

Stimpy's right about the LCA bushings, they are a PITA! Everything else is pretty easy to do - just takes patience and time. Be prepared for a stiff ride, especially by doing the LCA's.
