Blown head gasket ?
My freinds car is overheating and the idle it jumping from 1 to 2k rpms. I dont know what this could be but was maybe thinking its eighther a blown head gasket or radiator fans not properley working. I noticed the fans were not on when ac is off. Please help
A few things to check before making that assumption.
1-Fan will be off if ac is off..turnac on then both fans should come on
2-Check fan switch if fans eventually turns out to be the issue
3-Check the thermostat make sure it is opening
try these before attemting the head gasket cause

the passenger side is the one for a/c, the driver side is the old poor bastard
do a voltage check on the cooling system, well, if the headgasket is gone, you can pretty much can tell by looking at the coolant itself

I know this post is old, but what became of your friend's car matix? I am going through the exact same problem with my 96 accord. Again sorry to dredge up an old topic but I am just curious.
