97 Prelude Sportshift?
Hi i was wondering if anyone knows what the 97 preludes are capable of when it comes to 1/4 mile times (stock)
And if they have the same potential as the 5 speed?
Any highs or lows?
Are the trannys just as strong or much more weaker?
Thanks

Get the 5 speed man you won't regret it.
There is a story atleast once every two weeks about a auto tranny failing. If you are ever going to race the car or run it hard get a 5 speed. The auto is capable of around a mid 16 in the quarter or so im told.

thanks for the info! lol
the thing is i might get a 97 prelude for dirt cheap (at a dealer auction)
The problems are that the back bumper is pushed in a little bit
the front bumper is scratched (could be fixed by repainting)
and (the biggie) the car wont start.
So lets say worst comes to worst i need a new engine.
How hard (or is it even possible) to go from a sport shift to a 5 speed.
Does anyone know a list of parts i would be needing?
thanks

ss is the same thing as base except tranny, and I get sick and tired of having to say this, but chances are if the ss hasnt failed on it yet, it wont, im at 50k with no problems and have never met a person in real life who has had problems with it, and I have met plenty of ss lude owners a few have are running turbo fi etc, now dont get me wrong I do not recomend anything besides bolt ons, and I also recomend 5 speed, but if its the only fifth gen lude you can get, then get it, dont listen to the **** that jump on the bandwagon and really have no experience whatsoever with ss tranny, I know some of you do have experiences. And all ludes are the same chassis, 5 speed swap can be done easily by any import shop for around 1500 give or take

Um, that's the cost of the parts alone, and that's the low end going price for the parts.

The shop I use quoted me 500 for labor, 2k for everything. So you seem to be right on target with them, but a 5 speed prelude with tranny and all accessories needed in a junkyard is usually gonna go for less than 1500.
