Default Mix n' Match Exhaust choices for college budget.

Alright i have a greddy evo catback which is 2.38.

Then i have a stock header and cat.

I have an oppurtunity to buy the comptech header(non race) which has a 2' collector, but with an advantage of a stepped design for about 300 shipped to my door. MIG not the TIG.

Now my car is 96 GSR.
So it doesnt have the longer 4-2-1 hyrbid design as in this article explains. Exhaust design by MD

The 00+ GSR / ITR / LS do though.

I read on honda-tech about the great header test - Header test of about 15 exhaust manifolds on ITR - but they never said if the comptech header they used was the RACE version or not. I am assuming it is with gains of 11hp and 11TQ.

So i guess my question is - due to limited college finances - should i go with the comptech header 4-2-1 even though it has a stepped design .. but short due to cat placement on my car - and keep my exhaust and cat ?

Or alternatives ? I can get a JDM dc 4-1 for 275 but then i would have to get a 2.5 header back - not sure if finances allow that.

2" header + stock cat + 2.38 greddy evo exhaust.

Should i get aftermarket cat..

I am gonna upgrade to 2.5 someday, most likely summer but I am paying for school atm.

The header test was done a couple of years ago before the comptech race header was available, so the header in the test was the normal one. If you want to get the jdm dc, you can get a custom cat with different inlet and outlet sizes, that will mate up to your exhaust nicely.

JDM DC 4-1 > Comptech 4-2-1 for the 94-99 GSR?

Yes. I would definitely do the JDM DC 4-1 for a budget setup, and then get a 2.5" -to- 2.25" Cat.

2.25 is smaller than my greddy evo exhaust = 2.38.

Whats a good site for carsound cats. - they do come with the o2 bungs correct ? need emissions.

2.38 is most likely the Outside Diameter, I'm sure they would mate up perfectly.

PM "SMSP" For a Carsound Cat.... they come pre-welded with flanges and 02 bungs from Dave at SMSP.

I ran the JDM 4-1, Carsound 94006 2.5" --> 2.5" cat and Skunk2 60mm exhaust. It is 2.36" inner diameter and is hardly a bottleneck at all. This is the way to go.
