Prelude Si H23A
2.3l 160hp @ 5800rpm
156 torque @ 4500rpm
weight : 2866 lbs

decent tranny too..
1. 3.307
2. 1.857
3. 1.320
4. 1.034
5. .812
fd. 4.266

I raced a guy in 92 prelude during the weekend.
He beat me like 5 or 6 cars maybe. yes that bad.
Than i heard him talking to his buddy he should shift at 8,500 rpm to land in vtec for the next gear.

He claims he has only an intake and exhaust not even an header running on stock motor.

shifting that high to land in vtec seems like not that good of an idea. maybe he should invest in a jdm tranny, when i shift at redline i'm still in vtec. might save his engine a little life.

I believe 'sshaikh01' was expressing his skeptism that he was not stock. Should have asked him to take a look at the motor. apparently the Prelude that he raced had a 'swap' either H22A or he converted his H23A to Vtec form. If that Prelude beat you by that much you have a couple of secnario's: You do not know how to drive your car and your opponent does or he had some major mods that are internal and you cannot see. If this guy can rev to 8500 rpm he has some internal engine work done, an H22A can't even rev that high unless you do internals let alone an H23A.

he told me, i don't even have a header, you wanna see, i was like no man its ok, you don't have too. now i' like I should of said yes.

That's not a prelude engine.
92 was not VTEC and I have never heard of a H series SIOC.

ya, that 92 prolly had a h23vtec or straight h22 swap. 93 was the first year they introduced the vtec model.

With this motor you should be able to hang/beat SI's.

Yeah, its possible for him to beat you. I had a 95 SE with a h23a and I would spank on my friends 99' Si. It was very similar to your story I would beat him by about 3-4 cars. Its just the torque and off the line power. Thats if your going at a dead stop. If you raced him rolling at like 3rd you would get him, because that motor really has no high end stock. And the 8500 rpm shift might just be BS, but who knows should have looked at his motor...ha.

When I first got my car the only civic that beat me was boosted ...

actually now that i think of it .. the only all motors i've lost to like audi, lexus, vtec prelude .. sahweet! .. Dont think i've gone against an ITR but just recently spanked a base 94+ tegra with some bolt ons ... vtec del sols with i/h/e ... no can do.

but yea sorry .. civics are weak compared to ludes ... erm .. i didnt just start that battle did i ??? ....

the race sounds about right ... shifting at 8500 in a stock H23 == BS. redlines 6500. unless he did an H22 swap/hybrid like stated above.

Yeh, he's right about the shift point, oh and by the way the ITR would beat a stock Prelude Si, and probably a slightly modified one too. Not to dog on us Preludes but I have raced one and it wasn't a happy ending (Both my friend and I are pretty matched drivers). Anyways I'll race my friend again once I finish building my H22... it should have a different ending.
