Default LS/VTEC Turbo?!?

I am currently in the process of building an ls motor and am stuck. Im pretty much done with the bottom end. I have eagle rods, 8.5 comp pistons, and a block gaurd. I bought a spark racing turbo kit and an e-manage. The dilema is that i have a vtec head laying around and wonder if it will be worth it to throw it on. I have both heads but am not sure it is worth all the ls/vtec "problems" people are having. What hp numbers do you envison with each head. I will be pushing 15 psi.

If both heads are stock, then use the vtec head.

The bottom end seems to have alot of thought in it. I would goto the extra effort of using the Vtec cyl head. I have not had any problems from my turbo LSVT, it has been my favorite build so far.

This saturday I made 304whp on stock ls block & gsr head at 10.5 pounds.
But piston ring #1 went out. I have had this setup for 2 years now so it was about that time

i have the same setup, and i have a type r head, its defenitly worth it and u shouldnt have any problem with it if its done right.
with the type r head my compression went up to 9.1:1 ( from 8.5:1)
but take my advice and sleeve ur block (i regret not doin it)
my motor made 301hp and 210 ft/lb of torque at 7psi deltagate spring ( 6psi till like 6500 rpm after that boost start going up and down but u can average it at like 9 to 10 psi)
but i was askin the same question cause im planning to boost like 15 and i dont know what to expect ( check post in the forced induction and see my setup)
but good luck and u r gonna love it trust me

what will my compresion be like if i throw the b18c head on my ls block currently with 8.5:1? What rpm would you suggest bringing this setup to? I didnt want to do lsvtec in the first place bc hte reving problems?

Lots of people on this board are revving LS/vtec motors to 8000+ and even 9000+. If the bottom end is balanced and built properly you have nothing to worry about. 8.5:1 compression on a stock bore LS would take a dish of approx. 8CC's, giving you pretty much exactly 9:1 compression with a GSR head, or 8.85:1 with an ITR/B16 head.

is there any stock intake manifold that i can bolt onto the b18c head? I really dont want that goofy looking thing in my engine bay. How do they flow anyways?

on my setup i shift at 8900rpm at the track, revs like a bike man, at the dyno i stopped at 8500 and it kept makin power(but i was scared to rev it any higher just because of what everyone say about ls block)
im not sure about what compression u goin to get with the gsr head

A nice addition to the LS block would be the Z10 3 main block girdle for even more stability at high rpms. http://www.z10eng.com/

Nah, a nice addition would be a <FONT COLOR="red"><FONT SIZE="3"> Function 7 FIVE MAIN GIRDLE</FONT></FONT>
w00t

This girdle include dowels wherever necessary to ease installation.

you dont need this thing and if you were gonna buy a 5 main girdle that is not the one to buy.....buy the z10 3 main and you will be fine..

I made 420whp @ less than a bar on 91 pump gas. lsvtec.

Geoff and I both have full-race kits. I use the t3/t67. He uses a t4.

I got a question about the conversion part of the setup. I have the head and am gonna plug the oil gallery hole and i bought the dowel pin conversion from g.e. Does the pin conversion allow for a ls headgasket?

I am confused about what to do for a knock sensor. I have a b18b and am pretty sure there is not a knock sensor. What do i do to install one and where can i buy one used or cheap?

Also, I have a g.e. vtec conversion oil filter thing. There are two ports on it. A large and small one (sorry i dont have numbers). I need both for turbo and vtec feed. Does it matter if one needs a bigger feed? Help!

I have seen an ITR manifold on a GSR head, but it was not a walk in the park putting it on. This was before skunk2 came out with their bolt on manifolds. If I were you I would just get a Skunk2 manifold or a JG/Edelbrock. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by streetlvlhatch &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">is there any stock intake manifold that i can bolt onto the b18c head? would you plug in the harness for the knock sensor and assuming the wire is complete from end to end, like factory, plug that into the passenger side harness of the engine harness?

also, kind of a stupid question but, if my block is bored out to 84.5 mm, would i have the combustion chamber enlarged at a machine shop to match that of the block?
