Default running rich...S-afc. Chipped Ecu. Built Motor, backfiring and shootin alittle flame

Well i have a built motor and stuff (look in sig for details). Well i installed my S-AFC and a belray ecu a while ago. And after doing so it runs very rich i get like 10mpg and when i **** about 8,000 rpm it backfires and shoots alittle flame out.

Well i know its running rich i have it set up to a bit more fuel then stock like around 4-6000 its like 9% more on my afc and at 6-8000 its about 5% more i think.

My question really is how can i lean it out to a point wherre i know its safe. i dont want to just lean the afc out then have it to lean and blow a rod at like 8k. Should i just set everything down like 1% and just keep doing that untill i feel its better. I know a Dyno is only the true way to tell but i cant get access to one for a while

any thoughts on this would be great.
also is that an ok setting for the fuel 9%-5% increase over stock on the AFC or does that seem to much? I feel that the chipped ECU is dumping alot of fuel into my car over the stock one which i wasnt expecting that is why i raised the AFC fuel up. So should i lower it alot?

thanks alot
mike

...theres no way to for anyone to tell u a good(safe) setting..without a true A/F reading..and even if u try to copy someones elses settings remember all motors (even with the same mods) will vary....since no dyno is available..maybe u should look into one on these

thanks neway!

So your chipped ecu is running rich. And then you used the AFC to add more fuel.

I have no idea why it might be running rich

you can KINDA use a regular narrowband to tune it up, NA (well, you didn't post your compression), I think you have plenty of margin for safety. But really a wideband is the best idea, and yes you will see huge gains, **** bite the bullet and find a dyno tuner that will wideband dyno-tune your AFC for ya.

my compression is low. 9.8:1 ( i got the pistons for turbo but couldnt finish turbo project so i went NA)

well i am running rich on the AFC for sure. but i think the ecu is makign my car run alot richer as well on top of that but im not sure as i put it all in at the same time but im like 90% sure its causing me to dump alot more fuel in

i know a few friends that said they will help me out. and they pointed me to a dyno about 4 hours away. they charge $75 for 3 runs and will tune the afc i think thats what he said so when i get break from college i might go down. i think for now i might as well run rich its better then leaning it out to much

If you buy a good...and i stress GOOD egt probe (and gauge) you can also get

and idea- Just go on the highway...do a 4th gear run and see what your egt's are.

Lean it A LITTLE and try again- I think on a honda engine 15-1600 deg. is about

the limit (to hot/ to lean) I'd say 1200-1400 @ wot in 4th- I set my v-afc hack like

this with a turbo setup and it did well.

He's right, I'd save up and go for a road trip to the nearest dyno.

You should still invest in an EGT gauge-

If you do get it dyno'd, you can then watch you EGT and know how your running- It is a very good gauge to have
