All these posts about missing Rs just gave me a nightmare!
I can't even sleep without having to worry about my car, and I feel I live in a safe area ( yeah its Brooklyn).
I just had a bad dream/ nightmare -NOT REAL- I was out shopping in some small town way up north (dreams don't give too many details) with my father and when we came out of the shop I looked to the left and started to scream ' where the ****,,, holy **** my caR is gone!'
then I just woke up ( only about 20 mins ago) and the first thing I did was open the garage to make sure it was still there.
PLEASE guys/gals take the time and secure your caRs, I can't stand to see so many people loosing their Rs... Its making me very sad!

Maybe you want to live in Germany.... Only a few people care for an ITR here... nobody steals away a crappy Honda...
I`m not sure if I`d drive an ITR when I was you....... Not worth that mental stress

Ive had nightmares before too.
Luckily for me I live in Nebraska and the threat is not nearly as great here. Plus that I live in the middle of nowhere, 20 mins outside of Omaha

the strange thing is I don't really worry about my car that much when I stay local or for that matter when I was down in MD this weekend... I forgot to lock my car when I slept over at Mark's house I was just a little drunk and forgot
but woke up to find all our Rs there
I honestly don't take my caR to places I feel comfortable at... so the fear is greatly reduced. I don't stress that much over my caR to warrant a different car or more security.
Just that the guys/gals that have their caR stolen gives me the un-easy.

Im stressed too Rob, but it comes with the territory. I was followed home again last night from Rockland County all the way back to Westchester. I'm sick of turning my lights off and dipping through side streets, using my e-brake so that my brake lights don't go off on my block when I come home @ night...
And whats crazy is everytime i'm fed up with that ****, I get in my R and have a "greater" time than usual in it. Almost like it feels my pain and wants to make me feel better
Ny=death if your dumb

Where in NY is theft a big problem ? Im in upstate(Cortland)visiting family right now an will probly be returning in the summer possibly driving my R but now you guys are giving me second thoughts.
I live on an Air Force base so theres little chance that my car will be stolen from my house, but I have had dreams of it happening. I dreamed it was stolen when I was walking out of a gas station. Watched it happen right in fron of my eyes. I found it later that day though, and it had been repainted that laguna seca blue color.
I dream about weird stuff.

Any where in NY has the potential. Most thieves hit an area for a night or two, then they move on like a plague. Ex: I get followed home, they can't find my car so they broke into my neighbors civic and stole the headunit and his SI wheels, the they stole my friends CRX down the block from my house.
If you notice one neigborhood will get hit real hard per night in NY (usually). They steal everything in site that is appealing to them, then move on, and give your block time to recover then come do it all over again after a few months
They are bastards but to answer your question--> just stay lo-key and you'll be ok Cortland is nice, I work nearby. Just don't leave your car in the street.

Get used to it man, I get followed home once a week or so. It's amazingly obvious too, as my place is the only house on the street right now. My problem is my office is right in downtown Naperville, so when I leave work, I have to drive by the 'Riverwalk,' which essentially is a park type area where ricers circle the block revving their engines and playing their stereo loud. It's more toned down in the winter, but this summer, it was a good day when someone only followed me out of the immediate downtown area.
So, I kind of consider it more of a matter of when my car gets stolen, rather than if it gets stolen. ...But, it's like all things in life, enjoy it while it lasts
I still find the endless admiration that kids in civics have for our cars to be fairly amusing... It's just an Integra.

The only thing that can save our cars is GPS. Not that lojac crap where they're supposed to hide it, but probably never do. Something small, custom.
I was thinking about getting one of these GPS watches, and putting inside one of the seats:
http://www.wherifywireless.com/prod_watches.htm
Only problem is its $20/month. I want something with no monthly charge.

Most GPS stuff needs line of sight with the sattelites, I've got a Garmin GPS reciever for marking cool hiking and fishing spots, and the thing barely works in a forest under the tree canopy. Two problems with those watches: 1. They only last a few days a charge. 2. Without GPS line of sight, the best location they can offer you is which cell tower the watch is currently associated with. (Assuming the watch has 5 miles of range with a cell tower, that's still around 250 square miles that your car could be in.

No, those watches he linked to work off CDMA cell towers. It's actually a stripped down cell phone with GPS, when you load up the locator program, it just "calls" the watch to get its coordinates. If it can't give coordinates, the program gets the location of the cell tower the watch is at. I'm not sure whether or not it triangulates the location of the watch at that point or not, but either way, with no GPS line of sight the locator watch is pretty useless. (I saw this all on 20/20 or 60 minutes or one of those stupid shows recently.)

I know your feeling Rob, I had my car stolen <not ITR> before too. But after all these years of owning ITR in NYC, I am already mentally prepare for it to be stolen. I also know what my reaction would be, numb and dialing 911. If I can't find it, I will move on. Accept the natural law of what's yours stay yours.

I don't even know how many times I check my garage after hearing any thing remotely like a garage door... I've lost count...
On that note, not to scare anyone (on purpose)... those that are squimish, turn your eyes away...
Some guy I know got his stolen OUT OF HIS GARAGE!!!! He took it into the dealership for some minor bodywork and they subcontracted it out to some small (as we now know, shady) bodyshop... They took a copy of his key, and lifted his address off the invoice and broke into his garage... and the rest is history...
Good thing Honda added immobilizer keys in 2001... but still...
So all you non-2001 ITRs watch who you give your keys to!! I'm always nervous about giving my personals or my chipped key to any shop or even dealership now...
Some people say it's not worth the stress... sometimes I almost believe it too, but everytime I take my R out, it reminds me why.... and I snap out of it

Every time that I have to work late I come out and the first thing that I do is look for my car. I hate the fact that I have to worry about it all the time, but I know that it is worth it. I was thinking about it the other day; there isn't one time that I have ever driven it that it hasn't immediately improved whatever mood I am in. All the time that I have to spend driving something else just makes my appreciation of it even greater. It is worth it, no matter what the risks are. They day that I find her gone will definitely be a sad day, hopefully it will never come.
I dunno how some of you guys can even own these cars in Cali or NY, where it seems the majority of stolen threads come from. I love my car just as much as you guys, but having to look over it all day and watch everyplace you park just isnt worth the stress IMO. If dare i say mine ever gets stolen, i can look forward to that used NSX i have always wanted.
