How can u tell your throw out bearing is bad?????????
I was told that if it is going bad...you will hear a whinning noise coming from it when you press the clutch in and out.
Can someone else confirm this??

ive had this problem for a while now, and mine seems to squeak a little when the clutch is pressed in and out, but usually makes more noise when the car is off and the engine is cold.

how would it make noise if the car is off??
when the car is running, with the clutch pedal not pressed in u should hear a clakclakclak. Some are louder than others.
When u push the clutch pedal in it should go away (the noise) or get noticeably quieter. Best way to see is listen next to the tranny while u have someone push the clutch in and out..

Mine has been squeeking for a while now. I removed the slave cylinder and greased the area where it contacts the fork and it still squeeked. I believe my problem is the release bearing and the fork vibrating and needing internal lubrication. Im just gonna wait it out until i get a new clutch and flywheel and just replace everything at once.

When my car is running in nuetral (prolly in all the gears, u just can't hear it while your driving) , it makes this constant whining noise. When I push in the clutch it goes right away. The guy I bought it off of has a Fidanza Flywheel and an ACT clutch. He said the outer legs of the clutch are slightly riding against the houseing of the throw out bearing. He said its just an adjustment.

Thats exactly what mine is doing. If you look closely, the shiftfork vibrates very slightly when in neutral. Im pretty sure the release bearing has came loose or needs grease.
Well the only way to really cure that will be to replace the throw out bearing. Which means pulling the clutch. It could be something from the bearing or clutch going bad to just simply lubing some parts.
Since im gonna be installing a new clutch and flywheel anyways soon, im gonna replace the fork, bearing, and slave-cylinder at the same time.

Hydro transmissions the release bearing is always is contact with the pressure plate. on cable trannies such as the b series there is a small play you gotta have, if you're pressing the clutch pedal and and the noise goes away it's not the release bearing, it's the main shaft bearings usually the front one sometimes the rear one, I always replace both input shaft bearings along with the input shaft oil seal. Note there is no adjustments on the hydro transmissions. it's the same as your brake system it's self adjusting. but on cable trans. you got an adjustment nut. if the release bearing was at fault (hydro trans), it would make noise with/without pressing the clutch thats how you would know.
Ive been driving around like this for about a year. Since this might be a main shaft bearing, this means is a transmission problem? How easy is the bearing to replace once the tranny has been removed? Will this be something i will be able to do with MR. Helms and regular tools? I would really hate to have to take my car to Honda again.
eventually the bearing will fall apart, its hard to say when this happens. it all depends on the abuse and load you put on it. in some cases the front mainshaft bearing has alot of play that it will start to leak and contaminate the clutch disc and will notice slippage. As doing it yourself if you do most of the work on your car. I would take the time to do it (weekend) and since the SH's have that ATTS unit it requires more time, but other than that the service manual should do. The dealer would charge about 10-12 hrs of labor plus parts. bearings go for about 35-60 depending where you get them oil seal $6 oil $8 honda bond $15

I think you have the description wrong there... The clutch never touches the TOB. TOB pushes on the Pressure plate.
Start your engine and feel the arm that connects to the TOB. If your bearings are really bad you should feel it though the arm. Are you sure the noise is coming from the tranny area? Even in N when you push in the clutch the noise stops? This sounds like it may be the TOB but who ever posted saying that when the push the clutch in it makes the noise even when the car is off that is not the TOB.

to Qfactor, from your description i believe my mainshaft bearing and throwout bearing are both goin. How would these have got damaged in the first place, the throw out bearing thats in there is a brand new act bearing put in 10k ago, which isnt long.???
Are you sure the TOB was replaced? 10K miles seems a little weary to me. Any time you have the car that far apart you should replace the rear main seal.
I am a little unsure as to what Qfactor is talking about the mainshaft bearing...
Did it make the noise before and after the new clutch was put in?
