Default h23 all motor questions.

i have a friend with a 95 prelude si and we are discussing an all motor setup. i would like to see 200hp to the wheels. does anyone know any sites that contain information and parts lists to do such a build up. i want to raise the compression with forged pistons, replace the rods with forged units, balance the bottom end, install stiffer valve springs, bigger cams, aluminum flywheel, heavy duty clutch, and rev to 8000-8500. we arent looking to break any records with this motor just do better at the drag strip. his best time is a 10.2 in the 1/8 mile, not too good.

To be honest you're not going to do that with an H23, 200whp. It certainly wouldn't be very reliable or driveable. The h23 only has one cam profile, to make power at 8000-8500 rpms the lift and duration of these things would make in near impossible to idle and make any power down low.

BTW if you want forged pistons in an H22a you need to re-sleeve, keep that in mind. However using H22a piston in an H23 block can make really high compression, but they heat up too much. H22a pistons in an H23 are 11:1, type-s about 12.3:1 (which I have seen melt in an H23).

Realistically the only way you're going to get close is with an H22a VTEC head on the H23 block, which will give you the top end breathing and cam options you need. But then you are spinning a big crank (95mm) at high rpms to make power. It won't be reliable/last, it will eventually spin a bearing hard, and then you are left with a rebuild.

Many people with straight h22a struggle to hit 200whp with internal work even.

Sorry to be negative, but your goals for the h23 are a little lofty.

The way I see it if you are trying to build an all motor H23 you have to stop thinking like a Honda driver and start thinking like a Muscle car guy. Don't try to rev it out. If anything up the displacement. Get some long duration low lift cams, with a lot of overlap. Bigger valves! Bore the sucker, no replacement for displacement. Rev it to 7k and make as much torque as possible! See what you can do. Imagine a 200ft/lb 180hp Honda motor! That'd be awesome!

hey 200whp on NA h23 is kinda hard to get but dont get discouraged ...try to be the first to do so. the highest i've seen is 178 whp. good luck.

Unless you just love going against the odds, the H23 is NOT the prime platform to start on for an n/a build.

If you want a torquey n/a motor, look into the H23 VTEC. It will give you many more choices on parts and combos, a bigger crank, and better cams that are variable, so you still have good bottom end.

Good luck!
