Default bolt-on's to stock ITR motor ?

Here's the deal I got a 98 R and the motor will stay stock ( just got the comptech drop in ), I was planning on installing a JDM header and a 2.5 hi flow cat + a good cat back like the apex'i N1... I know it add some power but my friend got a setup like that and the car seems not to be faster than stock when we are racing together... And here is montreal one of the best honda engine builder says me that adding some bolt ons to my stock motor R is acomplete waste of $$$ what is your opinion on that, my goal to have my car as faster as possible...and I did a search and didn't found the information I needed to take my decision about staying stock or doing the complete exhaust

Are you gonna make huge gains w/ bolt-ons? No.
Are you gonna make noticable gains w/ bolt-ons? Yes.

4-1 Header w/ 2.5" collector is the best bolt-on you can buy IMO, it really makes a difference. IMO an exhaust isn't going to make too much of a difference in power but I think it increases the fun-to-drive factor, the sound of a nice exhaust adds to the driving experience

On top of that, the only way to truely tell your gains or losses for certain is by running the car on a dyno. Guessing if it works while "racing" your buddy has too many variables to provide a clear comparison.

There are more than several good to very good bolt on options for I/H&E that provide noticeable gains.

be sure to remove the bottlenecks out of your stock exhaust if you plan on keeping that.

by bottleneck you are talking about the problem that a 2.5 cat bolted on a 2.25 exhaust that creates a too much drastic decreas and affect air flow... I know a shop that can make me a cat that enter in 2.5 and exit in 2.25....

There's a bottleneck in the B-pipe right behind the cat. That's the one you want gone.
My Toda header, carsound cat and bottleneck-removed Tanabe Racing Medallion made a significant improvement in power. I dropped a consistant .4 off my 1/4 mile times.
And get some lightweight wheels... ya know, maybe some SSR Competitions or something

SMSP or Hytech full header and exhaust system, Endyn Intake manifold, Hondata S200. that's all u need for more power. i would add some good pads and nice Azeni tires and u will have a track munching machine!!

I drove a stock ITR two hours before I bought mine, and mine came installed with a 4-1 header with the 2.5" collector, and APEXi GT spec exhaust and an AEM intake, and there was a notable difference in performance. The car seemed more eager to push itself to higher speed, and it's also a hell of a lot louder, but that's the price we all pay.

Agreed, it's a bit extreme, but it did notably increase the power (not to mention the sound). I bought my car with it already installed and I'm planning to go turbo early next year and run a custom exhaust, so it'll do.
