anybody know about a awd civic wagon?
i was wondering , i seem to remember a awd civic wagon from about 91. if it is true wouldnt it make a cool racer. a wagon hookin up at the light to beat a mustang.
the problem with the wagon is its weak drivetrain, especially the 4wd system plus the heavy weight....
but a ZC DOHC is a boltin and good enough for the car on the street
in japan they used to have 4wd sedan civics and 4wd integras, which came with DOHC ZCs

6 speed tranny... My friend just did a sohc vtec in his CRX. I wonder if that would bolt into the rex, sans the rear drivetrain. Anyone ever take a good look at it?

The 1985 4WD Wagons had a button to engage 4WD. The 1986-87 had a full time viscous coupling. Both with a solid rear axle and the 1.5l carbureted engine.
The 1988-91 Wagons had the same viscous coupling, but with independent rear suspension. And the 1.6l CRX Si engine.

Back in my d-series days, I'd always dreamt of that 5 speed super low tranny with a taller final. If it's a stock 4.25 final, throw in the dx 3.88. Or if it's lower...try another lower final. Then that first gear will run to, say, 20mph...and just rip. But the whole awd system is weak and can't support extra power, so I'm guessing the tranny is similar.
I stumbled across an '85 AWD wagon last week in the junkyard; aside from missing head, its in pretty good shape inside and out. If the price is right, I'd like to get the whole thing and do a teg swap to it........
find a awd manual crv and and try to swap all that good ol' b series stuff over to it... otherwise go zc turbo in that awd thing and see how it feels... i think there's a guy in this board that has done awd zc turbo...
go to the links in my sig. Its hella short gearing. blah blah whatever.

tranny is stronger than the 2wd counterparts. the whole thing is just like the rest of 4th gen civics can't hold much more than 225 hp anywhere w/out upgrades
SL 4.512 1st 3.384 2nd 1.950 3rd 1.275 4th 0.941 5th 0.783 reduction ratio(transfer case gear) 4.428

nothing in the transmission will interchange with other d-series trans, except maybe a zc trans. it uses bigger axles and internals like b18 stuff(been there tried that). the weak point is the transfer case and the rear diff, but mine works great doggin it on 6-7lbs of boost.
I ate up my friends 90 mustang.
