97-98 hp vs 99-up hp
i have 98 lude and it drives me nuts that the 99-up ludes have 200 hp stock vs my 195 stock. Does anyone know what its different about the h22a4's and how they are makin the extra 5 over mine. is there anyway i can make the 5 hp on my engine
i heard it was a "mystery 5 horses". someone dyno'd 2 stock ludes and they were about the same. There are a few very tiny tiny tweaks in the a5 engine but i forgot what all they are.
i also heard they made it 200 horses in the a5 so that it would have more horses than the other hondas. it was their sportscar remember.

As they all dyno the same, I would suspect that the "extra 5 hp" came from Honda's Marketing Dept. There were some internal changes to the motors over the years, none of which would yield a 5 hp power improvement. 99+ had a different lost motion assembly design. 2000+ got thinner, lighter, forged rods and wider crankshaft bearings.

a5? do you mean h22a5?

It's made up...there is no extra five horses, hell there wasn't an extra 5 horses from 96-97 either but people will believe what they want to. Dynos don't lie, unless you want to believe honda's drivetrain loss got worse each time they upped the hp.
There were no changes.

So in other words... 97+ ludes have 190 hp?

yes. Read japanese specs, the JDM 4th gen VTEC that came out in 91 was rated at 200ps (197hp). In all the years it was sold in Japan through th 5th gen to 2001...the power rating never changed. It was always 200ps even in 2001.
So how did they get this magical hp considering they never changed the jdm spec and didn't add compression or anything to merit it?

someone wanna get a 97 and 01 exhuast manifold, pour in water and measure volume?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Someone on Preludeonline.com did a comparsion of the two headers and concluded that they were identical. He inspected them visually side by side and measured the port diameters at all flanges.
But it is true that the part numbers are different though. And your water idea is a fantastic idea!

just cause the ports are the same doesn't necessarily mean the headers are the same. the ports can be the same to match the same head but the internals can be bored out more so a volume test will actually tell if one is indeed bigger.
