Timing belt / head issues...
Ok well heres the story:
a month ago on the way back from college, my timing belt went and took some nice components of my head with it, I ended up paying quite a bit but got it all fixed.
Now a few weeks later since i got it fixed (possibly about 2 and a half) ive noticed my timing belt is tearing again, its shredding off by the ends of it. like its gradually getting rubbed down till it will break.
i showed a guy at my local shop and he said there is a good amount of slack since my head has been milled so much. I dont know excatly how much my head was milled down since i bought the car with a partially built head and block. So now my question is what could i do to compensate for the slack, the guy at the shop had some wierd idea about messing with the cams, but i forgot it and will post it up later. the best idea i can think of off the top of my head is to mess with the belt tensioner.
Please post up any ideas you guys would have, or routes i can take to fix this. i dont need that belt going on me again.

try running a power enterprise belt or gator back belt rather than the factory one. it might last a little longer. hoe much milling did you do on the head. you can get thicker Head gasket and compensate for the milling.
why dont you just get a shorter timing belt???
I havent tried this! so this is just an idea,
but you can get timing belts in varying sizes,
in fact they vary from dseries to dseries engine,
considering those engines are so similar, and yet the belts still vary,
you should be able to find many different belts, with varying ammounts of teeth,
get one with a few teeth less.
and yes.. if your belt is loose.. the very first thing i'd do would tighten the belt tensioner(if you havent messed with that yet, then are you sure its not tightened town properly already?).

b81b... like i stated in my post, i dont know how much the head was milled down, i was considering the thicker head gasket but i doubt that would make much of the differecnce. Spending the money on a nice timing belt like the gator or pwr to have it rip again would be a waste.
tad... that would be quite a few belts to go through dont you think?

There is no need for a shorter belt. I found out that the head I bought was whacked .040" and the stock belt works perfectly. .040" is a lot.
Just loosen your tensioner, turn the flywheel about 1/4 turn counterclockwise until the slack is gone, and then tighten down the tensioner. You'll be all set after this.
The only thing you have to adjust is the cam gear timing.
