Default I just got my Expo CD in the mail...

I just got my Expo 3 CD. I am impressed with the flash navigation, however, I am a bit disappointed because most of the CD has already been posted somewhere on Honda-Tech or the Internet.

I don't mean to rant randomly or make my point seen like the CD was bad, but I would have liked to have gotten more for my money.

I may be a loner on this one, and I mean not to offend anyone because I do not know how much work went into this CD, it's just that I payed for it and I feel like I was left short.

Again, I'm just expressing my opinion and would like to thank Gina for taking the time to making this CD possible. Hopefully if no one takes this the wrong way I can give some suggestions to making it better for next year if Gina or anyone else decides to make one.

Thanks again Gina!

Iggy: Who hopes people who read this are not offended.

Thanks so much Gina!! The layout is great!

The image CD has over 1,800 images on it and the video cd is so full of video that I had to cut 3/4 of it just to fit on the CDs. I am sorry if you saw some of the footage somwhow but keep in mind that it was all donated footage. THere are not enough hours in the day for me to monitor all of the original footage, since it was all donated, to see what may have been already posted somewhere different.

That being said aldo keep in mind that I didnt get a huge amount of people donating footage for the cds in the first place. Would you have rather had a quality product with quality footage or bad quality or less footage? I tried to use the best quality footage to capture every aspect of the event, which I thought I did........

I totally agree. The CD layout was very well done, I could even play some of it on my home DVD player.

I guess what I'm most dissapointed in is that most of the videos were posted online and sort of spoiled it when I got the CD. Like for example the Expo teaser, I have seen so many times again and again, the person who made did a good job but kept it as just a teaser. I didn't like paying $25 for teaser.

I really appreciate the hard work you put into it Gina. If it was about the money you earned the $25 and maybe more, but I thought people would have contributed more to make this a great CD.

Thank you for the complements IGGY. The teaser is just that though... a teaser , for the Full DVD which I will be finished very soon. It will be in DVD format and is VERY high quality. Also, no-one has seen any of the footage that I have used because I took it all myself and have not posted any of the clips on-line.

When Gina approached me to see if she could include my teaser in her CD set I was under the impression that it was going to be in some sort of high quality format and just be an extra clip at the end of the CD or something. So I sent her my teaser clip in a very high quality format thinking that it would be a treat for everyone to see it in High def instead of the crappy low quality format like that of the clip that I posted long ago (the one that you have seen already). Again, I just assumed all of this and had nothing to do with her project.

Now, after looking at her video CD, my teaser clip doesn't really seem appropriate to be in it because, like you said, everyone has already seen it and it's not really anything special.

I too am a little disappointed that some of the videos on the CD I already have. I don't really like paying for stuff I already have, like you said. But that is not Gina’s whole project either; it's only the video portion of it. What I'm really disappointed about though is that more people did not contribute video footage to Gina. I know I saw a few people with better equipment then what I was working with and it all seems to have disappeared.

Really the last complaints that I expected were about the footage since regardless there is SO MUCH FOOTAGE ON THE CDs. I worked with what I was given. Maybe if this project is done for Expo 4 (not sure if it will be me at this point), more people will contribute their footage since they know what it's going into. Like I said earlier my goal was to provide a compilation of the event so that all memories of the highlights were preserved. Regardless of the very few complaints about the footage, I still believe that I achieved the goal that I set for myself.

And for the comments about the video quality please again keep in mind that this is NOT the DVD and can not hold a huge amount of footage (let alone high quality) and personally, I did not want to compete with Eluder200K's project.

Have a happy thanksgiving everyone!

That's the spirit, let's be thankful for what we have!
Thanks again Gina, even if some don't completely appreciate it we still have a GREAT tribute to this year's event ... which is what it was meant to be.

Drinks ... anyone?

why not use some of the money from reqistration to hire someone with a couple good canon or sony DV cameras to film everything?

then you dont have to worry about the footage being donated and you can ensure none of it is leaked?

if it wasnt so far away i would borrow the canon xl1 from my school and film for free.

also are the CD lables stickers on the CDs? If so why not thermal inkjet? you can get a robotic duplicator for a couple thousand or I am sure find somewhere with one to use for cheap.

just an idea

A good suggestion, but with many perils.
Politics/power struggles, control of the Vid/contents/production/distribution,
financial ... not enough money to pay someone, and then the organizers don't want to give their consent to someone else, etc., etc.

Let's not get into this TODAY!
But keep it in mind for next year.
P.S. Ed -- who has a relatively unused Sony MiniDV cam.

I have a mini DV cam to, however your going to want a 3CCD camera if you want quality.

you could probably find a student that would do it for a few hundred bucks, let the people making the CD pay for it so they maintain control.

If in the next couple years the expo is in the Midwest i will get a broadcast digital camera from school and do it for free.

Yup, that's why I bought a Sony TRV-950.
However, there was just too much going on for me during the event to do filming in addition to everything else.

I might do something just for my own personal satisfaction and as a keepsake (privately and for personal use),
maybe hand some out to friends and the like afterwards. LOL! Less conflicts and the like that way.
That being said, I'm looking forward to Expo 4.

The cost of registering does not include any kind of profit for Trey. Unless sponsorship gets going, he's not going to have any spare money to do anything like that.

Who's desperately afraid he isn't going to make Expo 4.

Exactly. So then the question is.. How much more do you want to pay for have someone film it, then produce the CDs for each registrant? Then make extra? where does that money come from? etc. Maybe if this was a business as opposed to a non-paying zero-profit setup that the organizers are currently using.

i've had problems playing it thru the GUI as well..and i have a pretty fast system. however, if i manually load up the footage with a normal shockwave player, it works great!

Damn meng, you have a VX2000 too! I am waiting for the IP1 to come out in about 2 weeks. Super mega tiny MicroMV for me. I like your exposure and on camera filter controls though.
