Default Turbo running without piping/ or downpipe. SAFE?

Will my turbo be ok, if i install my manifold, turbo, and wastegate? but run it without any downpipe, or any piping towards the intake manifold?
The shop told me to connect everything so they can make it for me when i drive up there. will that be ok? I don't want to overspool the turbo? how would overspooling happen? and i wont even be geting any air from the turbo, because im driving without any piping whatsoever. will the wastegate even be necessary or should i cap the wastegate flange? The trip is like 3 hours away. and they tell me to connect it and drive there so they can do the pipe welding, (downpipe) and intercooler piping for less money. The exhaust side of the turbo is kinda outta the way of much things that can melt, so i should be good there. but will my turbo die on the trip up there? (overspool) or something? i dunno. just never heard of it being done? I guess that would that be open turbo but without any piping on hot or cold sides.

I am trying to get my piping, and downpipe welded on, I have all oil lines, fittings, etc. ready to be installed, and will connect them during my trip. I already have all necessarty flanges. please help... Thanks

the problem you going to have is over spooling or reving the turbo. which could be bad.

with no pipes hooked up should only take like 20 min to install , just do it at the shop..

I have a b18b, and the turbo is a t3/t04e 57 trim with a 63 a/r turbine
how can i stop it from overspooling?

just dont connect it until i get intake piping (from turbo to intake manifold)?
does the wastegae work off of the intake manifolds vaccum?

A guy i know schroder on the board just experienced this. He ran with no piping, lets just say his turbo is being rebuilt by majestic turbo right now

Do things right or pay in the end

Either

* tow it up there
or
* make the piping yourself

just get the exhaust side flandge for your turbo, go to a shop and have them weld a 8-12 inch length of pipe onto it. Make sure you tell them the angle it needs to point downward. You'll have a downpipe that fires straight down at the ground just in front of the engine. I run this daily right now, just adjust your boost controller or get a more sensative wastegate spring to compensate for the additional spool. You shouldnt hurt the turbo as all your doing is taking away the back pressure that shouldnt be there in the first place.

wow, damn, i would hate that to happen. I guess i'll just drive the car there, and get a buddy to help me connect everything so they can start the welding when where there.

ok, what about the piping on the cold side? (from turbo to intake mani) is that being missing whats gonna cause the turbo to overspool?

Yes, No intercooler piping = turbo overspooling.

don't you think it would be much less trouble to just put the stock exhaust manifold on and just bolt up turbo/connected to turbo manifold once there. why even risk damaging that expensive turbo. it really shouldn't even take 30 mins to swap out the manifolds

you cant drive the car without the piping hooked up... you will over spool the turbo bigtime... plus wastegate wont do anything unless vaccum is hooked up to read the boost turbo is creating... no downpipe is no good either, think about how hot the exhaust coming out of your motor is... with no downpipe the exhaust air will exit the turbo and melt everything close to where it is exiting...

buy 2 rubber connectors and a long piece of dryer hose and connect it to the throttlebody from the turbo and running no downpipe at all is fine but it will melt the radiator fan if its too close
