Default Quick question for you guys with ITB setups!

What engine management system are you using with the ITBs. In January I am suppose to come into a little money and I want to buy another type r. I plan on doing the Toda ITBs,Vtec Killers, and the Toda piston kit. I want to build a sick all motor car but don't know what engine management to use.

Yeah I was gonna call Len but I didn't know what the other guys were doing. ITBs are something I am not experienced with.

It might be a better idea to find out what some of the local tuners in your area are using. If you choose something that nobody is experienced with in your area then you might be SOL. Len is using the AEM EMS standalone.

I was thinking of using the hondata s2 but I didn't no if anyone has used this set up with the ITBs or not. I might just go visit Len this weekend and see what he says.

I hope you plan to go all the way. There is no point in half assing an ITB setup. And with labor I would estimate you would need at least 8000-10000 to dump into the motor. If that is what you want to do then go for it. If you can't afford that, then don't think about ITB's yet.

Toda ITB's are from 2000-2500
Nice header 1000
Nice exhaust 600-900
pnp head depends on shop
cams 900
etc....
etc....

you get the idea. It ain't cheap to make it run optimally. Don't forget the tuning sessions that will burn a hole in your pocket. I would save a good chunk for tuning.

I know it is gonna cost. Here is a rough list of things I want to get.
Header: Hytec(spelling? I'm stupid )
Cams: Vtec Killers or Spec C
Exhaust: Not sure maybe the JIC bullet.
Valvetrain: Portflow springs and retainers
Of course port and polish and maybe knife edge the crank.

You have to know what you are doing with the AEM or you could really screw it up.

Oh yeah I know I am gonna buy a laptop to keep in the car at all times for the AEM and as soon as the car gets running I will take it to a reputable tuner.

Talk to jack/p1 auto about the EMS before you just run out and buy it.... a reputable tuner might not be good enough. One who is reputable with the EMS is what you want. It's not just another tuning device, not any joe schmoe can pick it up and do a masterful job with it.

Do you drive your car often with the ITBs? I don't plan on driving the car very often but I would still like to know reliability if I do have to drive it.

I drive the car everyday with no filter on it. Runs fine. Hell Chris has been running them longer than I have with no filter and he's doing fine. Just one of those ITB myths. ITBs will not change your idle characteristic dramatically, the camshafts will.

You can put ITBs on a stock motor and run Hondata and not have a problem with idle. I personally run the EMS with the UEGO controller and have a laptop with me at all time in case of emergency.

You should stop by with a video camera. I'll show how streetable it is and you can post it online if you want.

People have no idea.

Keep in mind the price you pay to get all the features from Hondata unlocked is the same price as the EMS.
