Edelbrock turbo kit problems, need advice
Hey guys,
I got this new edelrbock kit installed on my 99 EX D16Y8. The only mod I have aside from the turbo kit is my catback exhaust. Other than that, this car is completely factory stock.
So, I've been having a few problems with this kit, and after spending $3300 I'm kinda dissapointed. Heres whats wrong:
After about 5800 RPM the car really runs like crap. It will start to putt putt putt really fast and you can feel that the car just isn't making the power it should. I've been asking people about this, and reading some of the other posts on here, and it sounds like the problem is more than likely the piggyback
Does anyone know if this piggyback can be reprogrammed, or tuned, in any way? I wasn't planning on puting any more money into this car, and I deffinitly do not want to sink in $1k for aem ems (8 injectors = no hondata).

Sorry to hear your troubles but Im pretty sure the piggy back unit is NOT tunable. My advice would be to return the item for another or find some other means of fuel management. If you're not up to dishing out for standalone might I suggest the fmu/missing link combo or afc hack. They get the job done.
I'm having the same problem. Email the edelbrock guys and they'll walk you through it. I sent them pics of my wiring and everything. Looks to me like I'm sending the link back and not driving my car till I get it back. Hey one question, I'm getting power from a different source than the instructions. Where did you tap in your link power wire?
I would recommend getting the car tuned using different gear.. Hondata/AEM EMS. There are some guys here on this board that can tune the car for you and make more power and have great reliability.
I was having that same problem also, but I fixed it over this last weekend.
I dropped off all the charge pipes and re-installed them from scratch, take your time and line everything up right. I also put some electrical tape around both ends of each of the silicone couplings just to ensure that they dont move/leak (I had one that did).
Took it out for a few hours tonight after all that and its running a lot better! The 5500+ range doesn't sound completely correct, but it that backfire problem your talking about went away on my car completely.
Another thing, if you can, go down to home depot or something and pick up a soldering iron for like 20 bux and redo those butt-connectors with a good soldering job. Remember to e-tape them after you solder. I was having problems with that after my install, and you guys might be as well.

Double check all your connections for the piggy back, and definetly solder all connections. The way Edelbrock tells you to do it is kinda ghetto if you ask me. Good luck.

Yes, the problem is the piggyback. The fast putt putt putt sound is detonation. The first batch of ECU's were programmed at Edelbrock and were fine. I guess the first batch that shipped programmed out of New Zealand from Link are not functioning properly. So call up Edelbrock and have them get you a properly functioning piggyback!

Yea seems that my problem returned also... Guess I'll take your advice too marauder. If we call, are they going to want us to send in the old piggybacks? Cuz that would render my car undrivable for a while until i got the replacement. Do you know for sure that they have a fix for this?
Yeah, they have been checking all the piggybacks that go out now to insure they are functioning properly. I am sure they will send you one and then let you send yours in after you get the new one.
I had a similar high rev problem, but mine was from the MSD ignition frying my plugs. Took me a month to figure that out! hehe...hated driving and keeping the revs under 5000.

yeah that's what they said. They said it'll take about a week to get it back. I haven't sent them **** yet. That's the last resort for this problem. They're looking at pic of my wiring now.
did you try tightening up your plug gaps? My car misfired up in the high rev's before I did on a stock ignition.... And the put put BANG is how mine sounded...

and it comes with piggyback fuel management
