Is LS/Vtec worth it? Questions about LS turbo
I want to build a turbo LS motor for my 93 ex, i cant decide yet what to do, i dont really want to spend 1000 bucks on a short block, id like to get away with some kind of cheap, stock pistons, which are the best to use, which pistons are forged? Im only going to be running about 6-8 psi, nothing too crazy cuz its my daily. My next question is, is doing the LS/Vtec conversion really going to give me that much more power, i know the Vtec heads flow good, but is it worth the extra 700 bucks to do the swap? What about getting some good turbo cams for the LS? I figure if i do a pretty good bottom end arp studs, soem good rings, good rebuild, i should be fine fine if i ever want to do ls/vtec later on down the road. If i do an ls turbo the turbo exhaust manifold wont bolt to the vtec head right? What computer do i swap into my ex when i go ls?
wow lots of questions. In your situation, I would use a stock LS long block, unless you had a head already. (though I did see a b16 head for 250 the other day).
Use a socketed ecu with uberdata
Doesn't really matter which one, in your case - just socket your p28.

all b-series exhaust ports/patterns are the same. so if you go ls turbo now you can always go lsvtec turbo later if you want and not have to get a new manifold if you don't want to.

power is subjective.....all depends on everything else in the equation, a large part of which is the skill of the tuner. you don't know (and nobody here is probably going to want to guess, as it's too smurfing subjective) until you do it.
however, i'm sure you could look around for dyno plots via the search bot and see what you can dig up to give you a basic idea.

As i see it the Ls/Vtec isn't worth it for a daily driver. What you want is a reliable engine and because of the R/S ratio + high reving you wouldn't want the ls/vtec.The wear is bigger and therefor the reliability is doubtful.
P.S.Should i put the flame suit on?If you belive that my statment is nonsense, pleast enlighten me.

Stick with just the LS. I have LS/Vtec and it's reliable for a daily driver. Now I am boosting it and I would prefer to have just a LS due to the lower compression. Also it's cheaper to replace the LS long block if ever needed.
Well since I see that you want to run a budget bottom end an LS/VTEC setup will not be for you, reliably speaking that is. Especially in conjunction with boost. Id rather spend that $700 on a stand alone and tunning. You'll get more power with a boosted b18b/a tunned for 10 psi. Than an ls/vtec untunned for 6-8 psi.
