Default Acura Warranty Work

Well, I am in a unique position here that involves me and a lack of funds.

My clutch went out, and it is obvious that it is a pressure plate/disc problem. I know that this is not due to me abusing the car, because I dont abuse it, plain and simple. I have had the car for 5 months and 15,000 miles or so. I bought it as a certified used in Langhorne, PA.

I called up the Acura dealership close to me about this and was told that generaly a wear and tear part would not be covered under warranty, but if there was found to be a defect in the parts, that it would be. Now, here is the tricky part. If they determine it to be something the warranty wont cover, I will be charged for the diagnosis. That charge can be up to and beyond $500.00 from what I was told by the service rep. at the dealer.

Now, I think everyone here knows that Honda/Acura is not the best at honoring warranties. I cant afford $500.00 for diagnosis if under their opinion I abused the car. It would cost me $204.00 for the clutch and to put it in myself. Which I am perfectly capable of doing.

I called Acura of America and they told me that to get reimbursement on something that was replaced elseware, I would have to have an Acura dealership diagnose the car. Call me crazy, but doesn't that cancel out the fact that you are getting work done somewhere else.

I figure what I am going to do is this. I am going to take the clutch out this week and take pictures of it. Including the car and VIN that it came out of while I am working on it. I will then take that to the Acura dealership and ask them what they think about it.

If this is something that was obviously abused and has noticeable wear problems, then fine, I can understand Acura not covering it. But when I take it out and it isn't abused, I am going to be quite upset if they dont reimburse me for parts. That is all I want. The $204.00 in parts cost.

What do you guys think?

I have a friend who is the parts manager of a NJ Acura dealership. They warranty clutches all the time. Which is surprising because it is sort of a wearable item however one that is supposed to last 200k miles if used properly, or not defective. I would say try another Acura dealership.

I already purchased the other clutch.

Does anyone here have a price for a clutch from a dealership? This is for the Pressure Plate, Disc, Throwout Bearing, and Pilot Bearing.
