Okay Im going to start just asking, lets have a thoughtful, meaningful discussion here. No AMERICAN crap, honda rules
or
American crap is heavy blah blah blah
or
Anything absoutely retarded that people tend to say.
But my quesiton is, it seems like ford is actually pulling some really decent muscle back into their blood with this GT40. 500hp 500ft/lbs of torque and 1500 units produced where long presold b4 actual production.
Obviously with a lot of design behind it being a track car, how do you think it would stack up to the NSX? Its obviously designed to go beond the quarter mile, since its going back to the 60's for the lemanns race heratage.
Im in awe just looking at the specs..
a 10 quart dry sump oil system
triple syncros on gears 1-4
double syncros on gears 5-6
From motortrend:
0-60 = 3.7 seconds
1/4 = 11.7 at 122mph
Power is at 500HP at 6K rpm and 500 pounds of torque at 4.5K rpm.
Braking from 60 mph = 100 feet!
Skidpad = 1.05 g
600 ft slalom = 71mph (holy moly that's high - remember the magic number is 70 mph - anything higher than that is clearly exotic)
Engine is 5.4 liters supercharged.
Top speed is estimated at 200 mph.
Okay, 1.05G skidpad, thats nuts....
so for all the people that say it cant handle blah blah blah, NSX is light blah blah blah, Id love to hear how it cant handle.
The brakes are amazing and it seems like they did a good job with the handling.
How do u feel this compares to the NSX?

that has some good info on how the gt40 and 05 mustang is manufactured
seems pretty darn cool

it would be pointless to compare the current nsx to the ford gt... except in exterior styling.
lets hope honda is reading motortrend too... then we'll have a comparison.

I'd trade one for my NSX.
Either in white or red please. Though I reserve the right negate the trade should the new NSX come with that 450hp V6.
At 3400lbs, the Ford GT is a heavy ****.

FYI it's the Ford GT, Ford lost the right to the name GT40, lol. Anyhow you really cant compare a stock nsx to a 150K GT. Personally I'd take a Gemballa turbo over either if I had that kinda of cash to throw around.
I am also an NSX owner and I love the Ford GT, hope to add one in my garage sometime in the future as well, if they are all sold out then I guess I have to wait like a lot of others. I try not to disparage any automobile unless its that Aztek. I love cars in general.

Me too.
I like to sift through pros and cons but a car that is fast is hard to dismiss.

Comparing the Ford GT to the NSX is pretty much a wash. Much, much faster with the handling to match. A bit too heavy for my supercar tastes but a damned fast and sexy car nonetheless.
Other than the weight the only other gripe I have about the GT is that it uses a hopped up Lightning engine. I would've much rather seen Ford develop a GT-only 7.0L n/a V8. Resorting to FI for a relatively large engine like that is somewhat of an engineering copout to me, but otoh it would've costed cubic dollars to develop an all new engine.
Now if the next NSX has this 3.6L 450 hp V6 as has been rumored recently, then we'll have an interesting comparo. One that is likely to go in the NSX's favor

$$$ talks
Nearly the entire car is outsourced as it is (gearbox, frame, body panels, suspension, interior, etc, etc) so cost cutting wasnt much of a priority as it was to get it out the door within 18 months. The motor was already proven reliable in the cobra and lightning so i think it was an easy choice for the development team to make.
Although cars like these dont really illicit much excitement from me now that i've done some on-track driving - i can go much faster, legally, than speeds i'll see on the street for much less money.... not to say i dont lust for a FD3S though, its more the ultra-exotic that i dont have any real desire to own.

If a 500hp midengine, aluminum space frame, 14 inch brakes, .99g skidpad, and 69.5mph slalom...from the factory, mind you...don't excite you, I don't know what will.
<== who still pines for a Countach, Muria, Testarossa, F40, and a '63 Vette Grand Sport.

It hasn't come out yet, so all we know is from pre-production publicity. That being said, all we can judge is potential - and the GT has the potential to outperform the NSX in every way. However, potential may or may not translate to actual performance, and there are many non-performance attributes to consider as well: reliability, quality of interior materials and exterior fit and finish, etc. How will those be? We won't know until it's released.
So, to answer your question... it might be a significantly better car in some/many/most/all attributes than the NSX. Or, it might not. We won't know for sure until they're out on the road in production form.
One thing is pretty clear though - all reports are that it will sell for approximately twice the price of the NSX. For twice the money, it better be a better car!!!

Putting production numbers aside, I think it's wonderful that Ford created a car that will _almost_ outperform an Enzo in most categories for *only* 1/4 the price!
The Ford GT... I love it! At $150k, it is by no means cheap, but then again anything over $30k is out of reach (I chose to become a teacher). So I must ask, why do I beat myself lusting over such machines? Am I really a masochist?

my exact words, said out loud, after i read this...."HOLY ****!"
thats very impressive. this car looks like a real competitor on paper. i'd love to see how it does on the track with the cars its designed to run with. the mustang cobra, up until this point, was ford's only real muscle car, correct? (i excluded the GT just cause...well, you know. there's so many faster cars out there.) i've never been a ford fan really, but its good to see that ford actually has a supercar now. i love how ford stayed traditional with its design and didn't try to modernize it too much.
as far as how it stacks up against the nsx, i'm not sure they are comparable fairly. i think it would be like comparing a TT supra to a ferrari F40. ya know? they're kinda in two different classes. an nsx doesn't carry "supercar status." keep in mind i'm saying this while trying to compare their specs from what i see and read in magazines, other threads, videos, etc. i would love to be even the slightest bit wrong in this case. what i mean is, if the nsx does better in competition with the GT40 than what i'm thinking it will, then i would love to see that. of course it won't hold its own against the ford, but...well, i think you get what i mean.
someone else in another thread said they were surprised to see ford go ahead with the production of this vehicle. i am also surprised. i wouldn't have guessed ford would try a bold move like this, given the fact that they haven't had a car to run with ferraris and some of the faster porsches, maseratis, panoz...the list goes on.

is there any info to back this up? that would be just awesome, but a while ago it was widespread rumor that the 2004 nsx would have a 400 hp V8. how does this new rumor hold up to that?

okay i picked up road and track mag cuz they had their own tests
here we go
Engine-
Aluminum Block and heads (duh)
supercharged eaton type blower
dohc 4-valve/cylinder
330 cu in/ 5409 cc
bore x stroke 90.2 x 105.8 mm
8.4:1 compression
92.4 bhp per liter (should be 100hp imo)
3 yr/ 36k mile basic warrenty inc powertrain
drivetrain-
1st 2.61 @6500rpm its going 61mph (odd that they make it that way, you dont need to shift for the 0-60mph test, planned obviously)
2nd 1.71 @6500rpm 93
3rd 1.23 130
4th .94 170
5th .77 @5700rpm 190
6th .63 @4750rpm 190
final drive 3.36
engine rpm at 60mph 1500rpm
for the cluster
220mph speedo
8k tach
oil pressure
volt meter
boost gauge
coolant temp
fuel level
curb weight 3390lbs TANK!!!
on the skidpad with road and track the gt40 got a .99 and braking at 117
i dont think road and track has as good of test drivers as car and driver but car still does well
also to note that it gets 21mpg on the freeway, which i think is very respectable for a super car
12.2 @121mph for their 1/4 mile tests which is poor but the trap speed is there
the editors note how hard it is to launch the car(******* tools)
this is what they said
launching the GT off the line requires exteme throttle discipline. Drop-clutch starts at 2800 rpm give just the right amount of wheelspin. Afterward progressive throttle is necssary to maximize rear wheel grip
duh?
still impressive, feather that twin clutch!
with a trap of 121 that could be running 10's with some drag radials or slicks
i know alot of you are saying that different classes, which i guess is sotra true, i cant wait to see the next nsx
everyone is jumping on the supercar bandwagon it should be intresting to see what happens. The nsx is going to need a big edge to hang with todays cars. Just watch, GM will make a super car now also LOL. American muscle returns with the viper, gt40 and the GM blah blah

Well, we know all about the 2004 NSX. It's virtually identical to the 2003 NSX, except for some new color offerings, trim changes (gearshift ****), and standard equipment list (keyless entry and CD are no longer optional). And it's on sale now at your Acura dealer.
The HSC that was unveiled at the Tokyo Show is alleged to be a thinly-disguised version of the model that will replace the NSX. Two things that have NOT been confirmed are the name of the new model (HSC? NSX?) or how much power the engine will have.

you said no retarded people, but what you fail to realize is that by making this comparison, it puts you exactly in the category that excludes you from participating in your own thread.

I thought we were having a pretty good discussion.
I know there are alot of differences between the two cars, and I was just asking for peoples respectful opinion.
Obviously something your not being.
I appricate all machinery for what it is.
