Default Polished vavle cover

ok well im building up my y8 head and in the meentime, i thought i might do somthing cosmetic for once, sooooo.. i decided to polish my vavle cover, went to home depo and went searching for sandpaper.. (grit: 600 800 1200 and 2000 i think) but anyways they dident have anything over 250, soooo i went searching for another way to bling bling the d, this random guy that polished some parts on his five 0hh said use this

its tripoli compound.
he said use this and a cotton rotating brush atatchment on my drill.. sooooo i gave it a shot

went at it for about an hour till the brush broke off durring a high rpm polish and flew accross my garadge.. so i wiped it off, took some pics, and turned to honda-tech for answers.
has anybody done it whis way before... and where the hell do you get sand paper that high of a grit..

Any hardware store will sell high grit sandpaper. You need to sand it down first (By Hand) so it is very smooth (Start with low grit then go high) so that when you get a cotton and wipe it, the cotton doesn't stick. Then clean it very well with water.

Then what I do next is, I use a Dremel with this polishing tip (It looks like a marshmallow) put the compound on it and dremel it at medium speed. It should be shiny like a mirror within a few seconds.

That is why people pay good money to have it done! Tom does it for $120 plus a refundable core deposit. his email is tomg552001@yahoo.com He has a website with tons of pics but I lost it.

I polished my ls valve cover, but I got sick of looking at it while it was not on my car, so I painted it shat brown.

Here's some steps, that work for me:

degrease inside and out
sand with low #, like 200, than wipe off dust so you're not sanding dust instead of the actual surface

than go up to 400, than 600, than 800 or 1000, 1500, 2000
make sure you wipe off the dust often

Than when its almost looking mirror finish, without using a compound, bust out your polishing cream, and go at it with a buffer, or by hand and stand back and marvel at the bling.

yea, it works awesome, esp. considering how cheap it is compared to some of the "better" polishes out there. . a.ka. more expensive polishes.
