My engine ran out of oil!
A few days ago I noticed that my engine ran out of oil and now I donīt if anything happened to my engine!?! The weird thing is that the oil pressure light didnīt turn on but the oil dropped under the lowest marking of the dipstick!! So is there a way to find out if anything got damaged or anything like that??
I spoke to some other german Prelude owners and they told me that I shouldnīt worry as long as the oil pressure light didnīt turn on!?
Thanx in advance!

well, i know from experience that my oil light only turned on after the engine oil was almost completely gone in the engine. Its a pressure sensor not a level sensor.
You should be ok as long as it wasn't completely empty , like no oil on the dip stick at all and you were not driving the hell out it. You can always pull the oil pan and look for damage or metal flakes. If there is damage to the engine i don't know if theres really anything you can do unless you just rebuild it.

Is that a fact with the oil pan or just an idea?
When I checked the dipstick the oil was shortly under the lowest of the two markings....and I pushed the car kinda hard the days before.
I noticed that there is a strangely noise when I let the rpm drop to around 2.000rpm in 2. gear. Itīis not very loud and not over all rpm or gears (not sure about the gears) but it sounds like something is rubbing or anything like that. When I shift to neutral then the noise disappears immediatelly....
One of the german Prelude owners I talked to advised me to put some "MotorUp" into my engine. Would that be a good idea?

im pretty sure this is all accurate but if its not someone let me know. The two lines on the dipstick are not to measure all of the oil in your motor. Its only for two quarts.
ie. u said that it was under the last dot. That would mean that you still had two quarts in there.

I really hope that you are right!!! My manual says "...it should be between the two markings on the dipstick..."....
Maybe the weird noise is coming from my tranny then?

you should be fine. the first dot is full and the second dot is 1qt low so if you said that it was a lil below the bottom dot then you prolly had about 3 or so quarts in there. as long as its between the two dots you should be fine. btw...for future reference DONT depend on that usless pos "oil light" in my opinion its there for decoration. the only time its useful is when it actually come on when you have NO oil in your motor and by then its to late.

So you would say I shouldnīt worry that my engine might have been damaged?! Whatīs about this "MotorUp-advise"? Should I get some to be sure or not? He swears on it...
And what do you think is this noise I mentioned before coming from then? My guess would be the pressure plate.... There is sometimes a squeeking noise when I want to get off in first gear, too. As if rusty metal scratches over another piece of rusty metal....

motor up is junk, just another additive for your engine. as far as the noise goes put some grease between the slave cylinder and the shift fork and see if that takes care of it

Just make sure you keep on top of checking the oil regularly(every 1000 miles or so) and add as needed, its a honda, it burns oil. I highly doubt you damaged anything. You were a little over a quart low, no big deal.
I had the same problem, my oil was low and soon after a noise started coming from the motor. I took it to a shop and it turned out that the crankshaft went out. The noise that was being made sounded more like a rapid banging noise that got faster and louder as i accelerated. Now im paying alot of money to get it repaired.
This just happened to me the other day too. I had NO oil on my dipstick and I put in about 3 1/2 quarts to bring it back to full. I feel that the car is running a little different but it could all be in my head.
Does the car only have 4 quarts anyways? So shoould I get an oil change anyways, even thoug hit's basically all new oil (I guess I need a new oil filter)? If I get the oil changed will they be able to tell if there are any metal flakes while changing it?
