Really feel sorry for the people that don't read carefully and actully think they are gonna be getting a radio in the mail!!!! It's at 305.00 right now and all they'll get is some BS paper work......
ebay shouldn't allow that kinda stuff
ebay shouldn't allow that kinda stuff
actually I think the way it's "advertised" on the site is in an illegal mannor... kinda like a bate and switch. Even with the title reading Alpine CDA-7998 CD/MP3 Player , *NOT* "how to obtain a"... I'm sure they could fight that without a problem.
Dont know if anyone tried that ebay link.....but as for today it's dead. I am hoping the message I sent ebay about the auction being a fraud was the reason. Would make me feel good to know I kept some poor soul that can't read an entire auction from getting scammed!!!!
for ebay taking that down, now if they'd only have a way to get rid of all the others

The question has to be asked though.....is it really fraud? Dispicable - Yes, but fraudulent....I honestly don't think so - it says in all caps - read auction carefully and that you are only getting info.....
I don't know, from a morality stance, it would be nice for eBay to be able to guard against all of this crap, but they can't - they are too big. From a legal standpoint - I'm a bit unsure - the title is misleading, but the body of the auction certainly isn't IMO.

yeah probablly not as much of fraud as it is misleading.....
who knows, who ever at ebay reviews the auctions decided for whatever reason it should be taken down. You are right that they are just too big to be able to weed out all the misleading auctions as well as those that sell counterfits

but deception *is* fraud when it comes to sales. Selling a car that's a lemon is deception, and is infact fraud and illegal.
But with the small "disclaimer" i don't know.

Now check out this guy.....
There's a lot that has to be proved before you can call it fraud. Not only does the message have to be misleading, but the source of that information must be perceived as the only reliable source for it. That's not the case here.
I can tell you that a lead balloon is going to float better then anything on the market, but common sense tells you otherwise...same is true for the auction - you gotta read carefully - it's all about buyer beware. If you read it carefully, you should know that you are not getting the item picutred.
On the other hand, if I'm a computer sales man and I tell you that video card A is the best on the market for reasons x, y, and z - and you have never bought computer equipment before - and it turns out it's a 512k piece of crap - then yes, we are on our way to proving fraud.
see the difference?
It just really surprises me (I guess it doesn't) that it seems that we are having this kind of influx around the holiday season. It's terrible that people want to prey on unsuspecting victims. Probably those who are not computer saavy and who are trying to buy something for x-mas...

very true....
maybe my use of the word fraud was incorrect....the email I dropped ebay stated that I saw the auction while browsing the site and I was shocked that people were bidding $300 for paper work leading them to a place they can get great deals on equipment. I told them that the auction title, the picture of the deck and even the specs of that model radio would lead someone who didnt fully read the auction would be getting a huge shock when they didn't get an actual radio shipped to them
(we all know you get to a point where you dont read all the specs on a piece of equipment...especially if you know about that specific deck and just come upon a great price)
Ebay's policy is to look into the specific auction and make their decision, in this case the auction was removed.
I mean I wasn't bidding on it and was none of my business technically...just figured I did my good deed of the month by not letting someone get scammed

I agree with ya - good work.
There was one that I think I posted a while back that was realy bad. Essentially a laundry list of features with no formatting at all - a total mess. In the middle of this long paragraph, there was a short sentence stating that it was info they were buying, and not the actual unit.
Sad that people can comfortably take advantage of each other.
