satellite radio - xm vs. sirius
its just up to personal opinion,i have sirius in my car and im thinking about going to xm,imo xm has better programing on the music i listen to (techno, heavy, alt, and classic), plus its cheaper. they both now have portable units(i havent seen all of the options for sirius yet). but thats just my.02
i've got the sirius plug and play system from audiovox.i had the kenwood for about 4 hrs.,didnt like it ,display way too small.this one is much better.these are good for the home and car, work you would need a portable radio or something with an aux. input.xm delphi is the only one i seen where you can have a car, home kit and a "boom box" that it plugs in to.as for service,i havent heard the xm,but hear they play about 15 min.of commercials an hr.,where sirius has NONE!i've also heard sirius is working on video and has a lifetime subscription for $399.sirius(so far)
I saw a comparison on tv between sirus and xm. They had them hooked up through rf and they said that the xm sounded way better then siruis. It's not an issue if you get a siruis/xm compatible radio, but if you are going to hook it up to a factory deck then sound quality might be something to consider.

Are you sirius? Lol!
Ok, that was lame.
I'm going to review these babies thoroughly before I put one in my car. I guess I might as well be comparing the evo to the sti...
I appreciate all the inputs so far-- both seems great, but as we all know, there can only be one...

-Sirius unit from Audiovox is bigger than the XM from Delphi.
-Audiovox's has a built-in wireless FM modulator, Delphi's needs the antenna cable FM modulator.
-Audiovox has the car kit and the home kit. Delphi has the car kit, home kit and the portable Boombox.
-Sirius is more affordable (hardware wise) and a lil more expesive a month due to commercial free programming. XM's equipment is more expensive, more compact, and $9.and change a month (no commercial free).
-Delphi's display is amber and smaller reading. Audiovox has bigger display and is gray in color (PNP1 model, PNP2 got to see).
-Delphi has an extra model called "Roady" which is solely for car use and more compact yet.

I sell both at my store, and I've installed both systems... That Audiovox plug & play unit looks like a brick sitting on the dash... It's a knockoff of the Delphi SkyFi, and it operates the same way with the jog dial, etc.... The Delphi and Roady systems just plain look better in most cars, unless you've got a cavernous pocket like those found in the new Accords and Camrys, or minivans...
Just my 2 cents...

As far as I know, Sirius isnt doing too well profit-wise. XM is doing great on new activations after the signing of GM and Honda, so thats who I prefer and would go with.

also to add a little to this all which is true except the roady now had a home kit and wireless fm modulator as well..
also the audiovox plug and play will have a boombox after the first of the year.. these facts are true and correct i have talked to both a Sirius and Xm rep that came into my store and was told directly!

I finallly caved in and bought the roady.
I went to radioshack to get the 6v ac adapter. I'm also going to get the xman option for added portability.

Sorry to bring this post back up but I am trying to figure out if I want to go with XM radio. The main thing that bugs me about my local programing is the fact that every time I am in my car there is a commercial on every station. It's like they all try to have there commercials at the same time. So how our the comericals on the XM? How long are the breaks? I would imagine with 100 channels it wouldn't be a problem finding something at any given minute. I am pretty much going with XM because my Alpine is XM ready and It would be the cleanest way to add Satellite radio.
There's about 15 minute commercial for every hour. The worst offenders are the talk stations, mainly the comedy stations(I guess they figure this is where most people tune into).
Most of the channels don't follow the 15 minute scenario and can go on and on without a single commercial.
Other than that, I would say that it's worth the $9.95 monthly subscription.
If you truly detest any interruption whatsoever, Sirius is 100% commercial free.

I used to work at best buy a little while back for a few years and i personally liked sirius better. commercial free, only a few bucks more, and the sound was a little bit better (not noticable imo). Also i did hear something about how xm's sattelite was put into orbit incorrectly and in a few years it will re-enter the earths atmosphere??? I heard it from a regional sales manager from XM, but im not sure if it was true or not. So don't start flaming me about it
.
.
I have owned both XM and Sirius in my cars...i sold the XM setup and went all Sirius...for some reason i like it much better, less commercials, better signal where i am...either way would be ok but i prefer sirius. hell, buy either one, i own stock in both companies hehehehehe.

Personally I like XM alot better. And to fix a few things:

There are quite a bit of XM music channels that are commercial free, and the ones that have commercials.. well I wouldn't worry about them. There are no where near as many as FM

You just hit the DISPLAY button and the font for the artist and song title get alot larger. Personally I think the colors on the Audiovox are harder to read than the delphi, but both totally blow away the old sony plug and play unit

This *can* be used in the house.. at least it's been done. It is designed for the car though, being more compact and having more features than the SkyFi unit. It can also be used with the Delphi FM modulator.

I prefer XM but that's probably b/c of all the hours I spent on top of NC's tallest buildings installing and constantly working on Sirius' repeaters... gurrrr... ihated that crap. they had quite a few problems and most are sorts out, but those problems cost you, the subscriber...

How the hell does Sirius have better music than XM? The *only* stations I could see this being true on are maybe the Unsigned Artists or something, but even there they can only play the music that's been released by the music companies (or smaller artists). They play the same damn music!

After looking at the Sirius unit and the XM Roady, I went with the Roady since:
1)It's smaller(and available at the time)
2)I use it in my car, at work and at home(and when I get the XMan, just about anywhere).
In my case, the 95% commercial free is a good compromise for a product widespread support and better portability.
