You don't have to wait at all!!! Run the **** out of right away! Also, make sure you lock up the brakes enough to actuate the ABS at least a few times a day, followed by mad high RPM launches to get back to speed.

You MAY want to check that nice leather pouch that the dealer gave you when you picked up your car. It contains the OWNER'S MANUAL. Read it just to make sure someone doesn't give you the wrong advice. It details the break in proceedure, etc. It isn't in the glove box just to keep other stuff from rattling around.

Ok everyone calm down he only asked a simple question everyone has at least asked once before in thier lives.
Check the owner manuel bro, it recommend at least 500 miles before getting on it hard. You can wait till you hit 1000+ if you want but the owners manuel recommend at least a minimum of 500 miles as a good break in.
Good luck bro.

Drive it off the lot like you will drive it the rest of your life. Don't baby it 500 miles.

There is a link somewhere on hondatech to a site explaining why back in the day it was wise to break in your engine gently, but now because of how refined the engine manufacturing processes has become, it's better to drive your car the first 500 miles like you plan on driving it forever.

Yeah, I was a little hyped up, but the point I was trying to make was this.

Someone spends at least $20,000 on a car and they are going to trust just anybody on the internet to give them correct advice. Acura prints an owners manual for a reason. BTW, it states 600 miles for a proper break in period on page 155. I'm sure the original poster will be back again when the 'Maintenance required' light starts flashing. That's on page 64.

The owners manual states that while under 600 total miles the engine should not be driven hard, like full throttle redline and such...and then the brakes should be treated "kindly" until the 200 mile mark is passed. After that you have to break it in the way you'll be driving it. Then after @3,000 mile install the Spoon drain plugs and full synthetic oil.

Ok Ok.. lol.
on a serious note:
Break it in gently for 600 miles. That means don't go past 4K RPM (i think that's the limit on the manual) and be light on the brakes (no glazed linings y0).. and break that ******* (shifter) and all that **** in for 600 miles.
then change your oil..
After that, I would just drive it normally.. normally as in how you're gonna be driving it for the next few years.. Do this for like 500 miles.

Not that this is relevant to the RSX ..
but, I had to break my dad's new camry in with my permit a while ago.
I just drove gently for 1000 miles.. changed its oil.. and then drove it a little more rough for another 500 miles..
the car still runs like a champ now at 30K miles. (camry powaazz.. served me well)

Now, i think I should check if i need to change my auto tranny fluid =P

sorry, didn't mean to go OT, it's really late at night.

Good luck brother.

OK, don't make me do this again. Do NOT change your oil early before the specified time or mileage interval, 5000 miles for severe service. There really is a special break-in oil in there from the factory. But, hey... it's your car.

Doesn't really matter how you drive the car as long as you don't cruise on it ... range the rpms from 500-5000.

get an oil change after 5000 miles if you run it hard ... 10k if not ...
have fun!

I agree. Just follow the manual. That virgin oil they put in the car has moly and conditioners to help break in the motor. Change the oil at the manufacturer's suggested interval..

there is good theory to suggest that breaking it in hard from day one will give a better ring seal, wether you choose to attempt this is up to you but the best thign you can do is change the oil in the first few hundred miles and then 3000 miles thereafter, id also stick with regular oil until the rings are fully sealed..
