Default help w/ MPG! going on trip next week

whats everyones gas mileage? i have a 98 b18c1 motor, skunk2 IM, aem cai, dc sports header w/ a chipped p28 ecu and vafc... i get about 250 when i usually fill up and put in about 10 gallons of gas remember i got an 11.9 gallon tank on my si.

im driving down to atlanta next week for the holidays and im looking to save some money on gas and get some relativly good gas mileage.. i have a kenji ITR spec ecu chip in there now.. i want to lean out the fuel using my vafc for when im cruising down I95 im in 5th gear going 80mph @ 4000rpms.. is is safe to lean out the motor like this? i have a autometer a/f guage so it will help a alittle.. anyone ever take there project car on road trips and hate the gas mileage? help! thanks

i get about 250/ tank on the highway. but my tank only holds 10 gal (cx) and i usually fill up around 8-8.5 gal. so i average 30mpg on the hwy, 20 city. b16 with i/h/e, chipped p28 to stock p30 spec

I drive a Silverado. Consider yourself lucky. I go through about $200 a month in gas.

I want to know this too, I'm getting some shotty gas mileage with my p28 w/ skunk chip. Cruising at 4k going 70 just eats the gas.

When was the last time you did a tune up; plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter? I'm guessing your ECU is making you run rich. I don't have experience with a VAFC. I'm sure someone can answer your question.
I'd get your car on the dyno when you get a chance..

just replaced the plugs, changed the oil, and fuel filter is on the list to be done before i go... as for the wires and cap/rotor how do i tell if they need to be replaced? the motor only has 56k miles on it? is it time? and yes the ecu is causing it to run VERY rich at times specially when im driving hard in vtec the car smells funny! im waiting to get the car on a dyno till next spring cause im not sure what mods i will over the winter.

that sux bro, sorry to hear that!

also i did get 3 chips from kenji when i got my ecu chipped, what chip would run the best for highway driving? i have a kenji spec ITR chip, Vison chip, and J's Racing chip!

and anyone know the answer to the question? can i lean out the motor w/ the vafc at high rpms so i can get better gas mileage on the highway???

I drive a 2000Cx and I get 250 miles on a full tank easy...i could probably push to around 265-270. I would try a tune up...which was already suggested.

i have a 10 gallon tank tho -> 30mpg is pretty good for ~4400 rpm @ 80mph. (~250 effective hwy range)

That is really good, I get about 230 to a tank in my 92 si with I/H/E and a katman chipped ECU. Maybe my timing is off.

lol yea, i got around 400 to the tank on my d16. Is the Si gas tank bigger than my DX gas tank? If the DX is smaller, that's prob why I'm gettin around 250 then?

what does you a/f gauge read now on the highway at 4000rpms
take some fuel out and watch gauge make sure you don't run too
lean. take fuel out untill it starts running lean.
I have a chipped p28 was getting 21 mpg took fuel out on a trip
got 29-30mpg. took around 20% fuel out.
try that

Reset your ECU before you go.

After you reset your ECU your MPG should always increase!

Too lazy to explain...

use cruise, it automatically makes you run leaner. also, why is everyone suggesting stock air box? i got +2mpg when i put on my intake, but i also reset the ecu... how does that give more mpg?

edit: someone please correct me if i'm wrong about the cruise, but doesn't the ecu make your engine run leaner when using cruise control?
