Default 1990 ex spark plug question/starting issue

my spark plugs are set deep into my valve cover and it seems like i cant get to them unless i had a very long extension for my socket. do i need to take off my valve cover to get to them since i dont have this type of extension? and also i replaced my fuel filter and cleaned the crap off of the center electrode in my distributor and my car still will not start. it turns over and has gas and spark what could be the problem??? thanks

They're not that expensive...
