Scatter shield with Aluminium flyhweel
is it really necessary? i am considering a fidanza or clutchmasters aluminum flywheel. However would a scatter shield be necessary with these flywheels?

Hmm... I really doubt that stuff is true about flywheels ripping apart and tearing through the cabin killing everyone inside, sounds like more of an urban legend to me than anything else.

Its not, go be a noob somewhere else. Think about the rpms that a flywheel sustains, now think about it shattering. Its a projectile weapon at that point.....

There was a pic on here not to long ago of a talon or eclipse that the flywheel broke and it totalled the car!

considering the way the flywheel is positioned, the only person (if anyone) at all that should be worried is the passenger of the vehicle 
i dont see even 10k rpm flywheel "shattering" thru the motor.
and considering that aluminum flywheels made right should be equally as strong/if not stronger than a steel counterpart...

Since we are on safety subject, where can I get after market "side" air bag, "anti" flat tires, bumper re-enforcement, rollcage, 5" harness, maximum impact protection helmet, fireman jacket. I think that's all I need for now. Wait, there's more. I also need leg guards and $1million dollars life insurance. Umm! I think that is. Now, I think I'm going to take off work early so I can slowly drive home. That way, the flywheel won't have a chance reach a dangerous RPM. By the way, anybody know at what RPM is the flywheel "reaching" it's limit? I think I'll replace my with the same one locate in the mighty "FORD Excursion". I heard those flywheel hold up very good. If you are travelling at 150 mph on a race track... i'd sure as hell want a cage and harness.
Your level of safety is really determined by what you're doing with the car. If you are spinning the motor to 12,000 rpm, well its not such a bad idea to protect yourself. But even if you meet or exceed all the safety guidelines you can still get hurt or killed. Its a risk we accept.

Who was talking about going to the extreme?
For $100, and you spend alot of time at the drag strip, and alot of time above the stock rev limiter, with a really light (probably unbalanced) flywheel, its cheap peice of mind.... if thats what makes you feel safer.

So, do you have this opinion because of the obligatory rule on webboards that someone has to post something ridiculous, contrary, and condescending, for the sake of having a different opinion? (when in actuality it is someone who has no knowledge of the subject chiming in to attempt to look smart?) Or have you actually had this opinion about scatter shields for a long time?
8500 rpm is pretty ******* fast. Are you sure your lightweight flywheel is balanced perfectly? I'd hate to see what would happen if .....

I doubt i'd die in a rollover at the track, but i'd sure as hell feel safer if i had a rollbar and 6-point belts. I spend ~10 weekends/year driving, so it something that I consider.
