Default My 95 Accord EX Is Losing at least 80 Miles to a full tank in gas.

Hi I have a 95 Accord EX 2.2. I only have a few mods a Greddy cat back exhaust, Injen cold air Intake, Greddy headers, Nology Spark Plugs wires. I know those are basic and I should have done something else. But my car has 185,000 miles on it. Anyhow my car is getting terrible gas mileage. It was getting great gas mileage I was getting 430 miles to a tank up to about 3 months ago. Now I get about 350 to a full tank. I drive like I always have. At first I thought it was my spark plugs and wires.Because when I changed them they looked like crap.So then I replaced them with the Nology spark plugs and wires. Now its getting worse. Then I installed the headers. I know it could be the O2 sensor. But I doubt it would make me lose the 80 miles to a tank.

Thanks

I have tried new fuel filter.I have not tried a o2 sensor but my check engine light is not on. Does anyone know if once you put headers and catback on do they bypass the O2. I do change my oil often
I have new plugs and wires but they are Nology plugs and Hotwires which I think may be causing the problem anyone ever use them?
Also someone has suggessted to change the cap and rotor what you guys think?

With 185,000 on it, your car may need the O2 sensor replaced. I know on my '96 LX, I would get about 390-400 mi. per tank. It dropped off some after awhile (about 15-20 mi.), so I replaced the both O2 sensors. I noticed after that the mileage went back. Also, how long has it been since your last oil change? I would notice a definite change in miles/gallon whenever the oil needed changing. I have a Greddy cat-back, Kamikaze header, Carsound high-flow cat., and AEM CAI.

I would change the cap, rotor and plugs (if not already done) and then change the O2 sensor. That will at least help if not solve the problem.

With OBDII cars, is it better to replace both o2 sensors?? Or could you get by and replace the one before the cat??

That's what happens when you bolt on useless stuff like intake and exhaust. More air to burn more fuel on the same displacement. If you want efficiency, keep it stock. If you want to go fast, think about a swap/turbo/bigger displacement/higher compression/Nitrous/etc.

Yeah I pretty much realize that now, does anyone on here use those Nology spark plug wires or those Nology spark plugs. Do you think they may be the cause. I grounded them on top of the valve cover. I dont know if thats not a safe place to ground em or what??

how many gallons of gas do you usually put in when you fill up?
or if you don't know, how much money do you spend and how much is it per gallon?

i usually put in about 10~12.5 when my needle is on EMPTY. i usually get about 300 miles

I know like my car and my friends lude after the needle goes past half, it seems like a race to the finish. I get about 200 (full to half) on half and then 150 on the other half, not bad for a 4th gen, its about 28mpg. Also if you only fuel when the gas light comes on and put 10 bucks in 7-8 gallons, your still in that lower half (at least on my car) and its more economical to fill it (but more weight). I only have intake, exhaust, oem wires and oem plugs; as far as engine and it seems ok with me. If you drive in some stop and go this will cause a lot of your mileage problems just because your car is using more gas. If you are running on the highway try just dropping your speed by 5mph, this will increase your mpg dramatically. Also if you go 80-85 on the freeway there is more air resistance. If you always let your car warm up before you drive thats used gas that doesn't have to be burned. Try maintaining a certain driving profile, I usually shift at around 2500 or 3000, it isn't like driving miss daisy and it isn't mr. speed racer, but it will save you a ton on gas. Also if you keep your tires rotated and alignment in tune and properly inflated, this will have an impact on mileage. These are obvious things, but sometimes unrealized at the same time. Hope this helps.

I always fill it up. I and it cost like 19-24$ I just dont understand how a few bolt ons could make me lose like 80 miles to a tank. It has to be something else too.

If you are going to post, please have an open mind when reading the replies, all of us gave you more than 10 different things to check, and now your going back to just a couple of bolt ons......please read above posts and if you aren't going to listen, do us a favor and don't post. We have answered you question 3 times over, it will give you a place to look and start problem solving, we can't pay for the repair for you....I don't mean to come off like an ***, but EVERY post you have created is garbage. Decent topics but it seems like you don't listen, and you wonder why you are at 96%...I'm outtie

Im sorry if thats they way it seems. Im reading everyone of the replys and I appreciate everyone of them. I wish a few people could be a little more friendly. Because truthfully I dont know half as much as probably all of you. But I do read the info I just take it all to consideration before I try to fix the problem. Because money is tight right now. Someone said it could be the bolt ons and Im just wondering if that is true and If I should just give up on fixing it because all the silly bolt-ons are eating my gas.

Do you warm your car up for a while? Thats probaly why you are getting bad mileage. I have noticed like 30 miles or so difference cause I let my car sit for like 4-5 minutes every morning. Just my thought....

ok I have the same car 95 ex 4 door, where I live has different weather. Winter when u run the heat and shiet it would suck gas like krazy. I used to get 350-400 city mpg too . I noticed for accord if you put 89 gas is the best. I tried 93 it would suck like krazy but fast tho and 89 would drink more faster. One thing I dont understand after my gas needle pass half it goes really fast so i always fill up the tank when it reaches half and I get a good amount of money too hehe. another thing you might want to change ur air filter too it would help

I dont know what it could be I think I may have to try to change the cap,and rotor first. All I know is it has not run the same since I put that sea foam in the gas tank. I have not changed fuel types. I have not drove it any differently. I changed the stock plugs and wires out right after I put the sea foam in. I was getting bad gas mileage after the sea foam. So I thought that it may be the plugs and wires. So I changed them with the Nology plugs and wires. So then Im thinking that the Nology plugs and wires may be causing the same problem. So it may just be a concidence maybe if I put some stock ones back on that would solve the problem. Ive checked my filter to the intake it looks fine.

Thanks

hehehe, thats funny, i wish i got 350 to a tank. me and a friend have been having this discussion for some time. we think that the gas stations are watering down the gas even more. are you going to a cheaper gas station now? i know in CA, they are definitely watering that crap down cause i used to get way better mileage in FL. my bet is the gas.

I think you just solved your own problem....and is sea foam the filter for intake? Sounds ghetto.....but then again I have never heard of it. I would say if your mpg went down after you changed your plugs wires and sea foam....WTF then you should swap back out for stock....on my car I tried different wires and nothing fits except oem and plugs fit but no difference with mileage or power or response or anything...so I went with oem. I think unless your running serious power or an ignition system only then would I replace the wires plugs etc. just MO. Also some food for thought, my 4th gen thats 90-93 lx gets 320 on a 15 gallon (i think) tank. Thats roughly 25-28 mpg, and thats mostly city. I have i/e and noticed an improvement by like 1-2mpg with addition of i/e. just my 2 pennies.
