Default Power steering oil cooler?

Ok With Autocrossing in the heat of the summer the PS gets really slow and winey. I tried to touch it and see how hot it was and i could not even touch it. It would get hard to turn as well. I don't think that the pump is failing casue when i am not "racing" it drives great.
I was looking arround and saw a PS oil cooler and i can get them for like $30!! Gee for that price why not right?
This would be going on a 5th gen Lude. I don't have my helms here at work... I know that there is a "cooling" line running in front of the Radiator... Anyone know what that is for?

Thoughts comments! Please

ps... Trying to upload a pic to imagestation but it is bering dumb for now...

The prelude has power steering problems unrelated to temperature. It's a common knowledge amongst prelude autocrossers. Adding the cooler, while it probably won't hurt, won't help your situation.

Yea i understand the pump is dependant on RPM and that is its major downfall for Auto-x....
i just doubt that it is good for the pump to get that hot. Just trying to think out of the "box" here.

buy a new electric pump from an old Subaru XT6 or Toyota MR2, wire it with a switch, or to the ignition...

No more stupid speed/rpm dependant pumps

When is the last time you changed the fluid?
Also, I've said this before, but AEM underdrive PS pullies remedy the high-rpm cutout to some extent.

Mattjohnston, what year mr2 and XT6 should we get a pump from, and what do they usually run $$$? One more question, what do you use for PS fluid- I know that Honda uses different PS fluid than other mfgrs, something about the seals being incompatible. Do you use honda PS with these other pumps, or use just regular PS fluid?
