rear subframe..the piece that is behind the gas tank that has the lower contol arms connected to the body.
that will definately be a tough job. good luck though and bump for a nice car as it is. what's not a street car about it?
Cost me $800 out the door. They have to drop the gas tank and remove rear suspension...then they had to drill out the old one, and weld in the new one. not a pleasant job.

i have bent the rear subframe, and im interested in ditching the whole piece for something like that

Its not a huge deal to replace, just drill out spot welds and remove old cross member. then locate and weld in the new one. Probably could be done in 1-2 days at a shop. I would probably charge around 350 plus the cost of the new factory cross member. Do you still have the old lower control arms and associated items?

everything is already striped. No gas tank. I still have all the components to put back on the car. It is just spot welded on so I guess i could just buy a new or used one and spot weld it back on right?
yeah, drill out the spot welds on the old one but not all the way through into the interior of the car. they make special spot weld drill bits for this. then prep the new piece by drilling holds along the edge(s) that was welded on the old one, position the new peice and weld through the holes that you have drilled to the body of the car. get it?

thanks for the info racerxadam. i am going to be looking into this. If someone want my rear crossmember...
I hate to say things like this but what did you use to cut off the factory suspension mount!!! Did you chew it off? I hope you are going to clean that up. Again, sorry!
it may be cheaper to buy a new body, and move your parts to it. Thats going to be seriously labor intensive and expensive I think.

You are going to HAVE to have this on a fram machine before you weld anything, thats the only way you can assure its alighned properly. Not a backyard DIY.

no problem, some people would not have realised WHY it would need to be aligned on a frame machine prior to welding. And would have ruined a perfectly servicible car, or made something a danger to others as well as themselves.

I'm not talking about doing this in your back yard but a frame machine is not neccesary. just some decent measuring tools. Most replacement pieces that would have to be welded are going to have more than a couple alignment holes to make sure it is centered and square. I have replaced similar weld on parts in a lot of different cars and unless the car is in an accident where the body that it mounts to is damaged a frame machine is not needed.

Either way I was never planning on doing it or not. Maybe take it to a body shop with a frame jig or just mock it up properly and have it professionally welded in place. I think any welding shop with a lift will be able to do it. Thanks for all your input.

That piece is welded to the body. Doubt you could buy it new.
Just jig it up and re-weld...( I'd also make sure to reinforce it.)
Shouldn’t be that big a deal. .. but I will say whoever does the work is probably not going to be too happy… so that will reflected in the cost to repair “damage”.

I figured it would just be like a radiator support. Its spot welded on so they should make new ones. If Honda does not sell them new I am sure that I can get one from a local junkyard. I just need someone to buy this before I make a commitment to put it back to stock.
