My sources tell me that NHRA is working with the Fairplex to schedule a date for an ET Bracket race. It will be the completion of the Finals, with Wallys, winner's circle, etc. Securing a date is very difficult, due to the overwhelming number of activities taking place at the facility that render the dragstrip unuseable; swap meets, sheriff's driving schools, computer fairs, citizenship ceremonies, etc. The dragstrip pits are utilized for these types of events. For that reason, as well as curfew and daylight issues, the event may not happen until after January 1. But adequate notice will be given, both on the website and by letter to each competitor. After the date has been announced, if you are unable to attend, you may apply to NHRA for a refund. Stay tuned, they are working as hard as possible to make this happen at Pomona.
Mr. Skelly:
The turnout for the NHRA finals for the bracket racers was pretty good and does justify a properly planned rescheduled event at POMONA. But time passes by and I am sure not 100% of those racers who were there that weekend for the ET classes, are going to be able to attend. I'd like to suggest having an open event for ET racing. No time trials or exhibition passes should be allowed for non-ET racers. For the respect of the Grassroots crowd, who have made up the majority of the success of this sport, I believe NHRA should give this group its full attention in this matter. An open Sport Compact event would be nice to increase the attendance and make this rescheduled date worth it for the track, concessions, and the officials working the track.
