Are clear corners or tailights illegal in SoCal??
I was wondering if anyone knew if it is illegal to have clear corners or tailights in SoCal. Also are there regulations as to the frequency or speed that the turn signals blink? I don't want to spend money to make my car look cool and then have to spend more on a gay "fix-it" ticket.
Just to let you know, clear taillights are illegal throughout the state of CA... I have gotten the fixit tickets both in So Cal and Norcal..
The vehicle code states:
24600. During darkness every motor vehicle which is not in combination with any other vehicle and every vehicle at the end of a combination of vehicles shall be equipped with lighted taillamps mounted on the rear as follows:
Taillamps shall be red in color and shall be plainly visible from all distances within 500 feet to the rear except that taillamps on vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1969, shall be plainly visible from all distances within 1,000 feet to the rear.

This section does not apply to a taillamp or stop lamp in use on or prior to December 1, 1935, or to lamps installed on authorized emergency vehicles.

Just to let you know, some of the Altezza style tail lights are DOT approved (such as the ones from APC), and are legal. Just make sure that you carry documentation of that in your car. I got a ticket on those lights right after they came out, and was able to go to court, fight it and win..

That stuff is straight from the California Vehicle Code... You can go to DMV's website and find it: http://www.dmv.ca.gov
The reason that I know about the particular codes, is that I have gotten all kinds of tickets for them.
