'93 Accord - Intermittent Miss
I am a new owner of a 1993 Honda Accord, 4 cylinder, standard transmission. The distributor started squealing about 1 month ago so I replaced the housing because of a bearing that was stiff using the original ignitor. I was also getting an intermittent TPS code and ignition code and the idle was low. I adjusted the idle as high as possible and it was still too low, so I changed the position of the throttle plate to get a decent idle. Sometime after this I began to experience intermittent misses, generally during acceleration. It feels as if the engine dies completely for about 1 or 2 sec. and then comes back with a bit of a jerk. The rest of the car systems are either unaffected or I don’t have enough time to notice the power loss to lights, etc. It does not seem to happen immediately after starting the engine and seems a bit more common when the engine is warm.
On the recommendation of the Honda dealer, I have replaced both the ignitor and the Main PGM-FI module under the dash. Neither has helped and I’m stumped. I would sure appreciate any suggestions.

replace the spark plug wires for reassurance. Mine was misfiring, and it was a bad wire. But it wouldn't cut out completey for 2 or 3 seconds at a time, like you're describing.
I remember a post several months ago about a bad/broken TPS causing similar problems. I've got one on ebay if you need it. See sig.

I unplugged my TPS yesterday and have driven it about 1.5 hours with no misses. By now it would have missed at least once so it looks like the TPS is the problem. Thanks for the help.
no problem. It's pretty easy to replace. take off the throttle body and cut slots in the 2 shear screws that hold the tps on. then use a flathead to unscrew them. Installation is reverse of removal. There's also a way to adjust the sensor for correct voltages at zero and wide-open throttle. Just get a multimeter and do a search. Also be sure to readjust your throttle cable after you replace the TPS. Good luck.
