I did. My Delta Gate failed and I boosted about 16PSI on stock internals. I cracked 3 pistons and had to bore and sleeve the block. I then got Crower rods, JE 8.5:1 pistons, ARP studs, ??? rings. Apexi SAFC, 370 RC injectors...so I'm not sure if it was a bad thing or not

I also (after rebuilding the engine) blew my tranny. I launched at about 4000 RPM's (don't ask...I was nervous) and got mad wheel hop. The next thing I hear is CRUNCH! CRACK! GRRRRRRRRRRRR! And the car was not going anywhere. SOOOOO I got a new tranny, Centerforce clutch, Type R flywheel, and a quaife LSD.....So I am again not sure if it was a bad thing :D

Actually it was a bad thing cuz I think I'll be paying the debt off for the next 2 years But I can drive really fast to the bank!

BTW

What I broke in the tranny was the diff. I shattered it and shot it right out the tranny case. There was a hole in the case about the size of a quarter, and another one the size of a dime (tranny fluid all over the place too).

Never "blown" a motor, but I have had some unfortunate luck. My LS motor spun a rod bearing, and my B16 broke a retainer a dropped the valve. Crazy **** always happens to me.

There are little aluminum bearings that go between the crank and the rod itself. When the bearing does not have enough lubrication, at some point it gets hot and fuses and will spin instead of staying put. At this point your crank is jacked If it goes unchecked, you will soon have a nice rod sized hole in your block

Broken Ringlands on cylinder number 2 and started to crack on another one...

Got JG to do the full works on it, now she's back stronger than ever..

I've blown one motor and two trannys. The motor blew while using nitrous and it was totally my fault. I was testing a new nitrous setup and didn't have the safety switches in places or the timing even retarded. Add to that me being more of a dumba$$ and getting on it in a handful of 2 seconds bursts in a row. Rod snapped in half, piston came apart at the oil ring and rod pieces went throguh the front and rear of the block. One tranny blew the differencial and the other had some sort of massive internal "explosion". I never bothered to open the case and find out what happened.

Hmmm....Blew my differential right out of my Y1 tranns. Literally....I ran it over...followed by some extreme curse words and anger. Threw a rod on a D16Z6 turbo...too much boost...Thats about it. The differential thing was cool though. Actually running a gsr Jackson @14psi in my 90 hatch....back tranny bracket broke = bye bye diff

All these stories make me wonder if I should rethink turbo'n.

Don't do that to me!

Well...the turbo was actually icing on the cake....The kid decided to advance the cam gear like 6 degrees....I was just there to make sure that the motor was dead...hehe keep driving...

I just blew my ls motor that I recently installed. Wastegate never opened due to my stupidity and spiked to god knows what boost level, cracking a cylinder wall.

heh heh heh...

I have blown up a B16a because I reved it too high on the dyno, retainer broke.

Blown up a S1 trans differential and case, thanks to a 8k rpm launch on slicks (stupid, but it worked for 2 runs!)

Fully built poor man's ITR motor (195whp) thanks to a Crower exhaust cam exploding into 4 pieces. Fubar'd the head, pistons, rods, valves, and last, but not least, it split the cylinder wall.

And to think, I'm going to build a f/i motor?!?! I've learned a few lessons along the way though...I build motors for other's, they run awesome, my **** always breaks

my list is long of blown motors and crap lets start way back in 94
1.honda sohc 1.6 liter non vtec CRX motor Blew it up with nos running 80shot at the races. Sold it right after i blew it to some v8 dude that wanted it at the race kinda kewl didnt have to tow it home.

2. Mazda 89 Mx-6 non turbo/ that was converted to turbo t4 coming back from ennis blew it street racing a vr4 it was fun i was 3 car lenghts ahead doing 140mph
3. Mazda 89 Mx-6 Same car blew the head gasket overheated old *** radiatior
4. Mazda 89 Mx-6 Same car again blew the seals off the motor/tranny exploded with Clutch Masters stage V
5. 300zx Twin turbo freakin profec a boosted extraordinarly high ammoutns and destroyed the piston. The motors arent cheap and hard to work on ask SGP about that ****

6. 300zx Twin turbo. Timing belt shot off nothing destroyed though

8. Honda civic ex 1992 model. Sohc cam with greddy exhaust and nos blew the motor and shot a hole through the lower block piston came out looked kinda kewl.

9. Spun rod bearing civic sohc boosting with greddy kit in si hb

10. Ls/vtec setup in si hb thrust washer moved and crank shot foward blwe the oil pump locked a JG brand new head and destroyed the cams and gears and timing belt just cruising at 60 on the highway

11. San antonio race Blew the pressure plate right out of the casing destroyed the tranny. Put a big hole about thesize of a grapefruit in the tranny. Damn ACT clutch at high hp dont work very good.

12. honda civic hb blew ls motor running at 8600rpm with a chipped ls ecu kinda stupid there not even turbo.

13. Race Car head gasket blew on the dyno running 32psi on the final run. Dynoed 646hp not bad though i was happy. Replaced the head gasket with hks never had problems again less pwr though with the hks metal gasket

Damn i guess i had my share of problems too.

I'd just like to say that I appreciate all the responses so far and that I can't think of a better way to help other members of this board learn how to avoid problems like these in the future.

Keep the thread going!! This is interesting and useful information!!

I advanced my timing wayyyyyyy too much a piston smacked the valves to smithereens. This was at like 7000 rpm. The ported head I had was destroyed. I had chunks of valve in my intake manifold, everywhere. I also think a cam gear slipped. That sucked. I was doing like 90mph and when it happened I coasted for like a mile or two into a publix parking lot, parked it and went home. I knew I fucked it up big time.. I still have the Arias piston to remind me not too run a lot of timing.

Oh yea, the sleeve cracked from 5psi. At least the pistons were fine.

oops, I nearly forgot. I also blew up the rear end in my S2000 drag racing it. I did a 7k rpm clutch drop (standard operating procedure to get a good 60ft), but it dead hooked instead of spinning a little. It made a whining noise, and later, while on the way to the dealer, blew up on the highway @ 60mph - causing my rear wheels to intermitantly lock up....lots of fun!

Default my poor boosted d15b7....

I had the MBC mounted in the ash tray in my EG. When I had a CD deck installed they had to remove the center console. Upon reinstallation, I didn't know the vacuum tubing to the MBC was pinched. Anyway, on the freeway I went to make a pass and instead of seeing the usual 7psi I watched my boost gauge jump to 17psi. Blammo! 3 holes in the block, 2 rods snapped in half, and a 3rd was bent pretty bad.

Now I'm a sleeved Z6 with a google of goodies!
