Turbo or Swap
another thing, how many miles on the engine, do you plan on rebuilding it before you turbo it? How fast do you really want to go? And like spyder said, what are the uses your car will see.... and do you have to worry about smog?
I think you should do a B16 because you'd get a little less hp for alot less money, then down the road, when you have more scrilla, buy the turbo for the B16 Hybrid.

Swap in a B18b1and a VTEC head, turbo it and nos into the intercooler, The best of all worlds in one.

Are you wanting a total of 180+ or do you want 180+ additional to what you have now?
And no I don't want an LS Vtec, that isn't worth the trouble of rebuilding the bottom end.
If that's the case you can get 180-220 out of a Drag or Revhard turbo no problem. That is pretty much my goal as well at the moment(around 200hp). If you decide to go with a drag kit, I would get larger injectors(310cc or 320cc??) a stage 2 clutch, Tial wg, electronic boost controller with the capability of a/r and v-tec controller(Apexi or Blitz
Go with the B18c1 and then if you still want more hp then thats the perfect motor to go turbo and also you are able to put down even more hp out of the engine.Cause if you stay with your stock engine you could only do so much and with the GSR motor you could push even more (250-290hp).
Maybe it's just me, but I get the idea that this guy is not interested in spending a whole lot of money. With a B18c swap you're already talking $3500+ just for the engine and all of the other conversion costs(tranny,ECU,etc...) that will go along with it, then add the $500-$1000 for installation costs, plus a turbo??? Besides, he did say he was only interested 180-220 max hp. Why spend that much more, if he's not that serious????
b20bz with a gsr trans and crower cams, valve springs and retainers, I/H/E and you're making some pretty good power. and then later on you can boost it
I have looked it over and finished my research, Sorry the poll didn't work. I have chosen to Turbo the D16Y8....before you jump on me let me explain, I own two civics, one is a Tuneable 97 EX and the other a pain in the rear 00 HX. I am and always will be concerned about staying California SMOG legal. There fore, I will turbo the EX with an HKS turbo since currently they are the only ones with a CARB approved turbo for the 6th Gen Civic. Then, since the EX is my wife's little toy, I will do the swap with my 00 HX....then engine, since this is way down the road and my wife has agreed that money is no object, I am doing a B18C5 changeover with a Jackson Racing supercharger. Thank you all for your suggestions but, seems that boost is the only true way to have fun.
Sounds like a good plan to me!
Damn! Your wife RULES!
Aha! A convert! Welcome to the world of forced induction fans!

Good luck with the install.
according to the CARB website, the only greddy kit for civics that is approved is the 92-95 kit, putting that on a 97 will not pass smog......I don't know if I have the patience to wait for Greddy to get theres to pass but, I will drop them a line and ask.
Go simple. Swap in a B18c1 and install a Greddy Intercooled turbo kit, Get through smog and run 12's. It isnt the fastest setup, but it will be driveable in all situations and it will beat 95% of what you will come up against on the street.
Nevermind, question answered on F/I board.
[IGNORE]
Will the 92-95 GReddy turbo bolt right up to the '96+ or does it require modification? I don't have to worry about smog tests, so that's not an issue.
