Default What intercooler(s) NOT to look for..EG

I have a 92 civic HB and have begun to look for intercoolers on eBay as well as HT and local junkyards...man, there must be a thousand different shapes and sizes to chose from....are there any that seem to fit better then others? Which ones should I stay away from?

$219.00 is way more then I wanted to spend, I was thinking more along the line of the low 100....or even less, which is why I'm looking in junk yards. My problem is that I'm not sure what side mount intercoolers to be looking for....eclpise's saab's others? I would like something I don't have to cut to make it fit.

If you went with a small starion smic.. how much boost can they take? we're talking about the little square ones right?

I dont mean to be rude but if your looking for an intercooler for less than $100 how the hell did you afford to go turbo in the first place?

I actually haven't' gone turbo yet there chief....and I see no reason to "not get rude" when someone wants to spend the least amount of money on something....we are not all as rich as you.

I remember seeing a saab intercooler with plastic endtanks that can be purchased from the saab dealer for around 100 bucks, looks awesome and cant beat it for the money.
I have the Johnny Racecar intercooler and i love it, but going cheap with the mitsu 2nd gen smic was almost my way to go.

Not to be overly nit-picky, but Starions are small FMIC's, Eclipse's are SMIC's.

Why not just not run an intercooler, run a pipe in the front where the intercooler would go, then when you're ready to buy an intercooler, just modify the piping to fit it in. I did this on my CRX back in the days and it worked fine for 7psi.

$100 is kinda low for an FMIC. Starion would be my first choice. The SMIC is a tad small...if you can rig up using 2(i think i saw someone doing this) it might work better...

Personally if you want to do an inexpensive FMIC i would buy the johhnyracer one. its the same thing as a viggen except it has metal inlets/outlets and they are pointing "the right" direction....

If you find a good Intercooler please inform the board because there are some of us who dont like spending $600 on a precision FMIC...

Buying name brand turbo kits/parts gets expensive fast. Going turbo doesn't cost as much as you think it does though. You can peice together a good turbo kit for next to nothing if you know what your doing.

Just to nit-pick the johnnyracecar intercoolers: If "johnnyracecar" isn't the same as "tyrus", he stole his pics. The black EG on the upper left of the page is from homemadeturbo.com.

Johnnyracecar.com is Tyrus' website...

i had his IC on my car and it worked well...Only reason i'm selling it is cus i had to hack up my bumper to get the piping to work and i want something i can hide behind my bumper...
