I don't have an R, but i do have ultimates up front and blizzaks as well. Last winter was not a problem at all with plenty of snow and cold weather in upstate NY. They're a little squeaky sometimes but they stop just fine.
I just ordered some axxis ultimates today. They're supposed to be very good in cold weather as these break pads of that level go.
