cat to catback gasket
is it ok to use a new oem ring gasket for the cat to b-pipe connection or would a gasket like the b-pipe to axel back connection be better...my exhaust goes on this weekend and want to have everything i need...i already have new oem bolts and nutz so i wont have to worry about those ...thanks people..

Those flanges aren't the right shape to accept that other kind of gasket. That other joint (at the axle) allows some rotation. That's why it has springs.
Besides, even if you changed the flanges, you've got one of those donut/socket gaskets at the front end of the cat. If you put another one at the back of the cat then your exhaust system will be able to move around too much.

ok u lost me
i dont have any springs at the axel back connection..
so u saying the oem ring gasket cant be used in the cat to b-pipe connection because it will allow the cat to move around to much?
i have part number 24 in the pic

Youre talking about the donut gasket?
Exactly...there is no "male" for the gasket to slide over, as there is on the header collector, for example. On the cat--->bpipe, there is only a design for a flat gasket.

so why in that pic does it show that a donut gasket goes there...can u supply a pic of the gasket i need to get before i start to put the exhaust on..it will be appreciated..
OK, the axle back connection is supposed to have springs. #20 in your picture. The donut gasket #18 fits in a spherical socket in the axle-back part. So it can flex a little bit. The back end of the b-pipe extends a little bit through the flange so there's something to hold the donut centered.
Now look closely - #24 at the back of the cat is a metal O-ring that sits in a groove. The flanges on the cat & the b-pipt bolt up tight against each other. Bolts #4 & nuts #36 but no springs. When it's bolted up that joint will be rigid.
At the front of the cat you've got a donut gasket #19 that fits into a spherical socket at the front of the cat. Springs #20 allow it to flex. You don't have enough hangers to hold everything straight, if it can flex at the front AND the back of the cat.

ok well i have the gasket for the b-pipe to axel back portion of the exhaust..its a cardboard like material with a metal ring in the middle..it came with the catback as well as nuts and bolts to connect the two portions but no springs...i ordered a new ring gasket from acura for the cat to b-pipe connection but thought maybe i should use one like the rear portion uses but with the cat---b-pipe shape (3 holes instead of 2)...so that ring gasket just gets wedged between the cat and b-pipe in a lil groove so to say..
man i just use that black silicone stuff from pepboys. its for like valve covers and what not, but it works great on exhaust connections. just put a bead on the b-pipe flange around the hole, and bolt it down. been using the stuff for years instead of buying gaskets everytime i mess around with exhaust. it says you should wait a few hours for it to cure before driving, but it doesnt really matter.
